( A\N the top is a pic of my sibling love between Maria and Armin except she would have blonder hair and green eyes. Enjoy !)

"I knew it was bad, but I didn' think it would get any worse." I thought to myself as I held a cool towel to Armin's forehead. Sweat forms on his brow and he shivers, even though we were well into the summer months. A series of violent coughs erupt from Armin's chest, forcing him to sit up so he wouldn't choke on his own saliva. I tried to soothe him by rubbing his back , but he's still trembling when he went back down onto the makeshift mattress I made for all three of us out of the materials I gained working in the fields. Grandfather refused to take up any space; foolish man. I was with Armin at the log cabin we shared with three other people , besides Eren and Mikasa, who are on their shift.Apparently, besides the food shortage, there was also a shortage of cabins when the government decided to " relocate" us out here on the field.

"Stupid inconsiderate pigs" I mumble.Suddenly, the doors burst open to reveal Mikasa and Eren bustling through the door and immediately went to my side. Mikasa sat down on the opposite side of my bed and placed her hand on Armin's forehead. " He's burning up. He needs his medicine."
Eren stood up and said ," Well come on, we can't just stand around and do nothing. Armin is too sick to go one more day without medicine. If he does, we don't know what could happen." He finished sadly, looking down on Armin's sleeping body. I looked at my brother, watching him take shallow breaths and his chest rise and fall which was the only assurance he was alive at this point. " Don't worry, I'll handle the medicine. Armin' isn't going anywhere, not while I'm still breathing. Eren stay here with Armin while I go out. Mikasa, are you going to stay with Armin or come with me ?" Mikasa took one glance at Armin and turned to me. " I'll be more useful coming with you." I nodded and turned to walk out the door. Eren called out to my back, " What are you going to do ?"
" Whatever I have to." I close the door with a loud bang and made my way to the one place I dreaded being even near:  Glenn's cabin. As I walk closer to Glenn's cabin,  I thought back to how crazy it became and how it only took one day to start.

Flashback : 3 months ago

At 6 in the morning, Armin and I were assigned to the cabbage field to pick at least 16 rows of cabbage each before the sunset in the afternoon . " I hate being assigned to the cabbage field," Armin grumbled.  I casually said," Are you sure you want to help me today ? I can do it by myself if you need to rest. You look as if you're going to become sick." Armin looked at me with a " Are you kidding" face. " I'm not going to let you do all this work by yourself , Maria. You aren't invincible, as much as you pretend to be. " I looked over at Armin and noticed how within the last few months, the scared little boy I knew after our parent's death had slowly disappeared. He was still under the surface though, lingering and ready to pop up at a moment's notice. Another I hadn't noticed was that he had grown taller and more musclier than me. It made sense since the males were given more work than the females. " Eren has also grown taller and musclier, you always did like muscles," my conscience giggles at me. " Shut up," I said aloud. Armin looked at me with a weird face, " I didn't say anything." I blushed and looked towards the row of cabbage. " Come on , Armin , the less we talk the faster we'll be done. We have work to do."

7 hours later

Shallowly panting, I moved over to the last cabbage in my row. " Finally, I'm almost done. You're next, sucker." I thought to myself as I pulled up the cabbage from its roots. The roots resisted but with one final tug, the cabbage broke free and landed in my hands. "Easy peasy," I said sarcastically. Placing my hands on my knees so I could catch my breath, I looked over to Armin that was on his last row. Immediately I noticed something wrong. Armin's face was drained of color and his cheeks and eyes looked sunken in his face. His body slightly trembled and tilted as he walked toward the next cabbage, taking small steps and stumbling over his feet. In some ways, I saw it coming before he did. I raced and hopped over a row of cabbage to catch Armin just as he collapsed on the ground.  As I caught him, his eyes fluttered shut. My heart felt like it was stopping.  No matter how indifferent I acted around him, I couldn't bear to lose him . "Armin ? ARMIN WAKE UP ?!"  I tried to gently pat his cheek but when it didn't work, I slapped him with all the strength I could muster. No response except for  a bit of moaning that escaped his mouth.   Without thinking,  I started to lift him up and onto my back. A grunt escaped my mouth as I beared Armin's full weight on my back . My arms and legs started to burn when I took a step forward . Ignoring the pain, I sprinted towards the medical cabin on the other side of the field. There was an official " doctor" who sometimes treated the workers depending on how drunk he was. I burst through the door and yelled," Doctor Hancho !" I carefully laid Armin's body onto the bed in the corner of the cabin just as Doctor Hancho stumbled in through the door. I sensed the burning in my nostrils but ignored it. " Now what is with all the yelling? Can't you see I have a splitting head- oh." He finished as he looked at Armin's unconscious body. When he looked back at me, his eyes went into focus as he started to take out tools as I watched from the corner. " Please, be okay Armin. Please." A tear silently went down my cheek as I waited for the verdict.
