When I'm on stage, everything else melts away. The lights, the audience, my uncomfortable flats. They were left behind after the first few measures. All that's left is the choir and the conductor. Leaning on each other for support, but still standing on our own. I dance through rising melodies and steady harmony; sure of every note. Comfort is found in being a cog in the machine. Only a part of a whole, but vital for the end product. It's a feeling of power. It's the feeling of "I am significant" It's exhilarating. And I can't help but relish in every note whether a soaring C or a pounding D. And standing up there, alone with the music, I am reminded again that this is what I love.
