Winter had settled in causing the air to become cold. The trees lay barren and covered in white snow, the very same snow covered the ground in a thick white blanket making it impossible to drive anywhere without getting stuck or sliding around. Walking was even difficult, your shoes got wet, the icey wind nipped at your cheeks and nose. The light flakes that fell from the sky would dust your hair only to have it melt and dampen the locks. Today was just one of those days.

Nobody was out on the streets because of it, well, all except for a single guitarist. His name was Daichi and he was dressed up in a pair of blue jeans, a long sleeved sweater hidden under his winter jacket. His face had been kissed by the winter air leaving his cheeks and nose pink from the chill. He had a scarf around his neck and a cap on his head to keep it dry from the snow falling. His hands were stuffed into his pockets, keeping them warm from the chill. Behind him was his closest friend Natsu, having known him for around the better part of eleven years. Dressed similarly to Daichi, though without the cap on his head and his scarf was hanging loosely around his neck. The two walking along in silence.

"Its been awhile since this path had been walked, we use to walk it all the time. Remember?" Daichi asked turning his eyes skyward just a bit, his lashes getting dusted by the snow that landed on them. He blinked his eyes as the snow melted and dripped into his eyes.

Looking back down infront of himself, Daichi let out a sigh and continued, "it didnt matter if it was hot outside, or cold like today, though I always liked days like today. When just the two of us would go walking. Sticking close to stay warm." He laughed and smiled as he looked down at the snow covered ground. He didn't dare look back, even on cold days like this someone could be walking behind you and sometimes they weren't of the friendly nature, but he knew who was at his back and it caused a smile on his lips. "Things sure are different though, everyone's kind of gone off to do their own thing. But you've stuck by me, who am I kidding. You wouldn't leave my side even if I forced you to leave " he stated with a laugh and then glanced back up.

"Natsu, this might be the last time I walk this path with you. I was thinking of moving, I don't know where yet but...I just figured it was time for a new start. Oh, but don't worry, I'll come by and say hi when I can get the chance to do so." Daichi said as he stopped. Houses had disappeared turning into grassy areas on the side of the road, only a few homes dotted the streets, but they were few and far between. The snow had started coming down harder now and Daichi could feel himself shivering, the cold having seeped in through his winter ensemble.

He turned his back to the street and turned his gaze downward to a spot on the side of the road. His gaze was locked on a rather decorative cross sitting in the snow, flowers were withering around it, teddy bears were getting soggy from the snow sitting ontop of them. Photos were starting to curl and tear from getting wet, all accept one that inside glass right in the middle of the cross. Natsu was smiling just a bit.

Daichi collapsed to his knees, frozen tears trailing down his chilled cheeks. He hung his head and shook his head. "It should have been me. It should have been me...." He cried. Natsu reached a hand out and rested it upon Daichi's shoulder.

"Its not your fault..." He whispered. Daichi's head lifted and he whirled around. His teary eyes were wide as he looked around. Though, his wide eyed expression relaxed when he saw no one there. He hung his head once more, tears falling.

Him and Natsu had been walking that very same path exactly one year ago, but some crazy had decided to try and brave the slick roads. He slipped on a patch of ice skidding right towards them. Natsu pushed him out of the way and took his place. Daichi to this day has not forgotten what happened. To this day he blamed himself for the death of his best friend. As he sat there, he turned back and rested his hands in the snow, knelt infront of the cross by himself crying and wishing it was he who had been taken instead of Natsu. Two words escaped in a shaky breath...

"I'm sorry...."
