The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon leaving an golden hue over the valley. A gentle breeze blew over the area, causing the soft grass and multicolored wild flowers to brush against a person who was standing on one of the hills.
His hair a dulled shade of blonde and cut rather short. He wore a pair of blue jeans with a bright pink hoodie, he probably could have been spotted from a mile away. His feet were clad in a pair of white sneakers hidden by the sway of the long grass. His name was Mirai, and he was currently standing there lost in thought. You see. . .Mirai had a bit of a secret, this wasn't his first life and he knew it.
Mirai was aware that this life was nowhere near his first life, in fact, it wasn't even his second or third life. He had started his life as something of an anomaly to humans, a demon. But it wasn't just his past lives he was thinking of either, it was his past loves too.
His first life as a demon, he had fallen for an angel. An angel that had softened his wild and blood thirsty heart. Driven by the desire for battle and the screams of his prey, the angel had seen a light within him. Kindness he seemed to reached and pull out of him. Death had come to them though, their forbidden romance had ended them much like Romeo and Juliet.
"I'm still searching. . .I'm still waiting for you Ui. I remember it all, the life as a demon and how you showed me love. I remember the life as a slave in Rome, a warrior in China, a young prince in Japan. . ."
Mirai had looked down as if he were talking to someone. His hands stuffed into the pocket of his hoodie as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He wanted so badly to find Ui once more, just to run away with him and live in peace.
"I remember when I met you in the life before this one. . .nothing was going to stop us. We were invincible. . ."
His head shot up, tears coming to his eyes as he screamed out into nothingness.
"But you left me! You promised. . .we promised nothing would tear us apart!"
He sobbed as he lowered his head once more. His shoulders shook and his hands were balled into fists within the hoodie pocket. His tears fell and dropped upon the grass and wild flowers like tiny raindrops falling from the sky. Alone, the only sound that broke it was the sobs that escaped Mirai and the wind that blew around him tussling his hair.
Even as the air cooled from the sun disappearing, giving way to night. A warmth seemed to surround Mirai and a warm blue glow shone from behind him. He didn't move, he wasn't scared from the sudden light or warmth even as it seemed to wrap around him. In fact, the blue glow seemed to form like two arms surrounding him, hugging Mirai from behind.
"You don't have to cry anymore. . ."
The whispered sound of a gentle voice, much like a whisper amongst the wind. Mirai kept his head lowered as he shook his head.
"You left me. . .you promised. . .and you still left me."
"But I'm here now. . .I'm here. . ."
Mirai lifted his head and opened his eyes. He didn't look behind him, afraid that the warmth and whoever was behind him would vanish. However, he knew this person was Ui. The gentleness in his voice, the warmth of his touch, comforting as always. He knew it was the man he loved.
"What am I going to do now? I can't continue without you."
"You can let go now. . .the pain, all of it. You can stop looking. . .we can always be together if your heart so desires it."
Mirai forced a smile onto his lips, but it disappeared as a thought crossed his mind. How?
He was still alive, Ui was not and he was starting to believe that his mind was more or less just playing tricks on him at this point. He had finally lost it. But the glow seemed to sense Mirai's hesitation and smiled. So, he reached down and into the hoodie jacket, taking hold of one of Mirai's hands and pulling it out. He held it and walked around so Mirai could finally see him. A blue glow enveloped Ui completely as he gave the other a smile.
"No more pain. . .no more searching. . .come with me."
Mirai hesitated for a second, but he forced another smile and nodded towards Ui.
"Okay. . ."
With that, Ui began to lift off the ground as if filled with helium. It forced Mirai to raise his arm, and as Ui got higher he began to break apart into balls of ethereal blue orbs. They looked like sparkling blue fireflies. Mirai, he began to lift off the ground himself. His body starting at his toes breaking apart and forming into similar shimmering orbs only purple. In seconds purple and blue combined and danced within eachother, mimixi ogether within the wind as they drifted away.
Where they stood, a gravestone made of beautiful marble lay tucked within the swaying grass. A photo waved in the wind, anchored only by the wild flowers that lay across the gravestone. The photo, a memory captured of Mirai and Ui standing side by side, Ui's arm around Mirai and a smile on both their faces. The final memory they had before they met their untimely end.
Despite their lives ending prematurely, they were happy. They were together and no one could pull them from their eternal afterlife. No one could disrupt their eternal happiness. Their laughter and whispered words of love, still heard upon the wind to this day, reminding those who find their way there. . .
LOVE IS ETERNAL
