Chapter 16
Luke

2016

"Come on, Boyd! Show 'em how it's done!" Lucy yells from the metal bleachers of the Rec Center in Orchard Park— the OP where she and her family primarily grew up.

Woody, Keith, Elijah, Bryshere and I are playing five-on-five basketball against JJ, her dad, and brothers. Of course she's balling better than anyone and has most of the people at the Rec Center cheering for her every time she makes a 3-pointer or a simple layup.

"Yeah, best!" Lucy yells after Woody makes all net.

Mike gets the ball and passes it to his daughter. JJ shakes Keith and jumps up to dunk the ball. Will catches her just as she jumps down from the rim. The crowd goes crazy. "That's game point." JJ smiles before walking swiftly inside the Rec Center.

Lucy and Kim— who was walking with Algee— follow behind JJ. We dap each other and say "Good game" before taking some pictures with some of the people around. We make our way inside the Rec Center to cool down.

Almost as soon as we step inside, we're bombarded by girls of teens and early twenties trying to take pictures, get our numbers, and get us to follow them back on social media. One girl is really pushing on Algee.

Me and the guys share looks as Algee uncomfortably tries to get the girl to back down. I look across the center to see LuLu, Kim, and JJ staring at us and talking. All three girls have smirks on their faces as Kim flicks her hair and walks over to us.

"Hey Gee Gee," Kim smiles flirtatiously as she pushes passed the girls. She invents a nickname for Algee on the fly. "Luke, Lucy wants you."

"Sorry, ladies. I gotta go to my lady." I give Kim a thankful look as I slide away from the thirsty girls.

I only have to walk a short distance away to LuLu who was close for the show about to happen. She just wraps her arm around my waist as she laughs.

"Best, didn't your moms want us to go over there?" Bryshere asks Kim, hoping to get an excuse to get away from the pack of girls.

"Duh. They said they want to start the music in a few minutes. You're taking too long, guys," The youngest Tresvant child says, playing along. She moves the girl's hand off of Algee. "Tameka, what have I said to you before?"

"You don't own him. Last I checked Algee Smith was single." Tameka snaps.

"Funny. Because last I checked your baby daddy wasn't single," Kim smirks at her dumbstruck face. She gives her the sweetest smile that she can muster as we all try to hold in our laughter. "Favor, peace, and blessings over your day, Tameka."

Kim drags Algee away as we follow. "Oh shit. Kim just really did that." Woody laughs.

"KiKi," Keith chuckles. "You ain't had to do that girl like that."

"But she did," Lucy says as I wrap my arms around her. "Tameka has never liked Kim. Since her first baby daddy wanted Kim when we were like fifteen and he was twenty-two."

"Goddamn." Elijah cusses and we all laugh.

"Get to the stage." Cassie cuts our fun short.

We were all at the Rec Center to have a big party for the OP. We always try to do one whenever all of us are in the area. It's always free with music, food, drinks, and games throughout the entire building. It's normally an all day thing that everyone in the OP loves.
