"Eren, you don't have to be so nervous, alright?"
"I'm sorry, okay?"
"If anything, I should be the nervous one!" That's when I realise how nervous I really am. "Oh god, I'm so nervous..." I take a deep breath.
"It's okay, baby, I'll be right here." Eren squeezes my hand as I unlock my front door. I see Sarah in the living room doing work and now eight year old Carter sitting on the floor watching TV.
"Hi sweaty, you hungry?" She looks up from her laptop and sees Eren. "Oh is this a friend of yours?"
"Umm actually, mum, that's what I wanted to talk to you about." I've only just started calling her mum but it oddly doesn't feel as weird as I thought it would.
Sarah closes her laptop and turns down the telly, earning a glare from Carter. "Dear, you can tell me anything."
"Well..." I take a deep breath and Eren rubs my back in comfort. "I-I'm... gay?" It comes out more of a question than a statement. "A-also... I used to be... a girl." I mutter. "And this is my boyfriend." I whisper, pointing to Eren.
It's silent for a long time till I hear. "What does that mean?" Carter stares blankly at me and I can't help but let out a chuckle. What surprises me is when Sarah does, too.
"Nothing special." She says. "He's still the same as everyone else and we still love him no matter what." She grins as do I. I run away from Eren and up to Sarah who doesn't hesitate to engulf me in a tight embrace.
"I love you, mama." I mumble into her shirt.
"I love you more." She says.
