Moon Spell

[Madeleine POV]

I was hanging out with Matthew a lot lately, but never neglected to make time for the girls or personal swims around Mako Island.

The girls and I promised Emma to help her set up for her dad's birthday party. Cleo told us that she was warned by the old lady about not looking at the full moon or it's reflection, which was the night of the party.

I didn't think much about it except that last month's full moon was when we first got our powers, so maybe it amplified our powers or something.

At the party I actually made sure to wear a nice, normal black dress, at Emma's request, so that I would make a good impression on the rest of her family. I sighed heavily in annoyance as Zayn showed up with Miriam, but he was at least invited this time.

After a bit Emma started acting weird and actually insulted people, which was of course, so unlike Emma. I asked "Emma, are you alright?"

She grabbed my arm and pulled me outside, "Isn't tonight just great?"

I looked at her, "Yeah, it is, but why don't we sit you down for a second yeah?"

"No," she whinged, "I want to go to Mako; the Moon Pool would be great this time of night."

"Maybe tomorrow Emma, tonight's your dad's party remember? We should stay and make sure that he knows that you care."

She nodded, "Ok, I understand." She sat down and laid back to look up, "Doesn't the moon look wonderful?"

I decided to look up at the floating rock orbiting our earth and got an amazing feeling as I responded, "Yeah, it does."

And that's the last thing I remember.

[Lewis POV]

Emma was acting weird and even I could tell something wasn't right. I was grateful to Madeleine, seeing her take Emma outside, while I went to get Cleo and Rikki.

After a while I started to get nervous and the three of us went outside only to find that the two disappeared. "Where did they go? I was certain that Madeleine was just taking her out to get some fresh air."

Cleo walked further a little ways and called, "Over here!" Rikki and I ran over, "I found Emma and Maddie' shoes, but no sign of them."

Suddenly Emma and Madeleine popped up out of the water and Emma spoke first, "You guys have got to come in."

The Madeleine giggled, "Mako Island is amazing at night. The water feels heavenly."

Emma finished, taking Maddie's hand, " Yeah, you've never seen anything like it."

I was shocked and honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing until Rikki commanded, "Lewis pull them out now."

"Me? Why does it always have to be me?"

"Because if either Cleo or I do it, if we get wet we could both fall under the same moon spell these two are under and then you'd have to pull us all out."

Maddie swam up to the deck we were standing on and pulled herself up a little ways, "Come to Mako Island with us, it's the most wonderful place."

"Please, it's like an underwater wonderland and we could all live there forever," Emma begged.

I slowly stepped forward to the younger girl, figuring that since she was already halfway out she'd be the quickest. "Yeah, why don't you tell me first, why it's so wonderful?"

Maddie's face broke into a huge grin as she pulled herself up even more and that's when I reached forward and pulled her out. She seemed a little upset, but only for a little while as she laid there on the deck, staring at the stars.

Emma was being a bit more difficult since she pulled me into the water at first and I had to climb back out before pulling her up. Of course we all didn't pay attention to Maddie as she managed to crawl her way back into the water and take off. We decided that it would be best to take care of Emma first before worrying about Maddie.

There was a slight problem in that even though Rikki dried her of her tail wasn't disappearing and after a stressful night of running around as soon as the full moon was no longer in the sky, Emma turned back to normal and we all went out looking for Maddie, worried about what she had been doing all night since Emma couldn't remember anything.

[Maddie POV]

As I woke up the next morning I freaked out noticing that I was lying in the sand of the Moon Pool room, in last night's clothes, when the last thing I remember was Emma asking me about the moon.

I immediately took out my phone and called Lewis. "Maddie?"

"Lewis, what happened last night? I'm scared."

"Hold on, calm down everything's alright. Tell me where you are and we'll all come for you and explain things, ok?"

"Ok," I took a deep breath curling my knees into my chest, "I'm in the Moon Pool room. Please come quickly."

"We will, ok, the girls are on their way and I'm getting in m boat now. I got to let you go so I can drive, but I promise to get there soon ok?"

"Ok, see you soon." Lewis hung up and I slowly put my phone down next to me in the sand, waiting.

When the girls finally showed up Rikki asked, "Hey, Madds, you ok?"

"No, I can't remember anything from last night. What have I been doing? Where did I go?"

"Easy, calm down, we're pretty sure that the only thing you did was swim around Mako after being moonstruck. Emma can't remember anything either, if that helps."

I shook my head, and watched them all climb out of the pool and Rikki begin drying them all off, "It doesn't because you at least know where Emma was all night because you all were keeping an eye on her. What if I talked to someone? Or flashed my tail to anyone standing at the docks? What if someone right now is going to the local news station to sell the story of the green tailed mermaid!?"

Cleo, now on her feet, ran over and wrapped me in a hug, "Easy, Maddie, you're going to be ok. If anything does turn up, it's not your fault. The full moon got to you and you weren't acting like yourself. We all promise to help you and keep you safe. We'll make sure that we are definitely prepared for the next full moon so that this doesn't happen again."

I wrapped my arms around Cleo and started to cry, Emma came over to hug my other side, while Rikki rubbed my thigh. Once Lewis got there I asked if I could ride back on his boat with him instead of swimming and he said yes and we made it back to the shore.

After getting home, showering and changing, I kept myself locked in my room for the rest of the day refusing to answer my phone whenever it would ring. I couldn't deny that I remembered nothing from last night and it scared me to think that I could have done and anything and I wasn't able to control myself.

Over the next couple of days, it took a lot of prodding and convincing from the girls to get me to finally get back in the ocean to swim with them.

While with them my nerves were finally calmed and I was once again unafraid of the ocean. The only thing I feared now was the full moon.
