(Madeleine POV)
"Well it's official, the world has officially flipped on its axis," I proclaimed hanging up the phone.
Casey, who was sitting next to me asked, "What's wrong? You don't have to leave again do you?"
I smirked, taking his hand, "No, and I'm sorry that I usually run off after receiving these phone calls Casey, but their my first real friends and I can't abandon them."
Casey nodded, "Yeah, but I'm your first real boyfriend, so why can't we just have one date or one dinner without you having to take a phone call or rush away to who knows where? Can you at least tell me why you're so secretive?"
I took a breath and shook my head, "Maybe one day I can, but truthfully, the secrets aren't just mine. I promise that its not anything bad, it's just once I tell you, it'll change the way you feel about me."
Casey seemed offended, "How are you so sure that I'd change? Am I that untrustworthy to you?"
I pulled my hands out of his grasp, getting up to leave, "You know, maybe I should go. I don't want to fight with you. Have a great day, Casey. See you later." I practically ran out of the juice cafe and sprinted all the way to the docks. I stood at the end of the docks, crying, debating on whether or not I should just jump into the water and swim away.
Suddenly a familiar voice called me out of my thoughts, "What's wrong, dear? Are you having a bad day?"
I wiped away the tears and turned around, mustering up a smile, "Nothing, Miss Chatham. I'm fine."
She gave me a knowing look and held out her hand, "Come away from the edge, Maddie, and take a walk with me." I took her hand as she led me back onto land. I allowed her to lead me, she pat my hand as we walked, "Now, dear, tell me what's troubling you?"
I let out a sigh, "I feel alone and I should be used to it, but now it's worse because I have people that I care about however I still feel like I have to keep my distance."
The wise lady nodded in acknowledgement, "I understand, you're afraid that because they're so close to you that they'll hurt you or that you'll hurt them and no matter what you don't want to be hurt, but you don't want to hurt them either."
I wiped away a stray tear, "It's not just the girls. There's this boy too. He suspects that i'm hiding something from him and it hurts me to say that I might have to leave him to protect me and the girls."
"Ahh yes, love can hurt. However no matter what advice I give you. The choice is yours and I believe you'll make the right one when it is time."
I smiled at her and realized we were now overlooking the beach. I breathed in the calming ocean air coupled with just a hint of sunscreen and tanning lotion. I opened my eyes as I felt Miss Chatham clench beside me. I looked at her and then followed her stare to lock eyes with Rikki and Zayn.
I slipped my hand from Miss Chatham's, "Thank you for your advice, Miss Chatham, but I fancy a swim."
She broke her stare for a moment to smile at me, "Have fun my dear and don't forget to visit on Friday."
I chuckled, "And miss bingo and ice cream night? Never." I stepped down and headed for the rocks, waving back at the woman, "See you, Miss Chatham!"
"Goodbye dear!" she called back
I skipped down the beach before breaking into a full sprint. I climbed into the rocks, making sure that no one, including Rikki and her new boy-toy, were following me before diving off a high rock and into the beautifully cold and salty water.
