The rest of third period, Austin kept bugging me. He was leaning over to me, whispering, putting notes on my desk, and just being annoying in general.
The bell finally rang and we were let out of class. "I want you all to do pages 90 and 91 for homework today," said the math teacher, Mr.Bradbrook.
We all half-heartedly groaned, but inside we all loved Mr. Bradbrook. He was one of those really awesome teachers you just couldn't help but love.
As I was leaving the room guess who comes up to me? It's none other than Austin, tied in first for most annoying person in the world. I bet you couldn't guess who he was tied with.
"Hey, cutie! Whatcha doin'?" He asked as he walked next to me.
I was tempted to roll my eyes at him, but from past experiences I knew he'd only come at me more, and that was the last thing I wanted right now. "Good."
"Really? That's it? Cuz I bet I could make you excellent."
"No thanks. Like I said, I'm good, really." I started to walk faster but he still kept pace with me.
"Ah, come one, just give me one chance and if I don't make you excellent I'll go away."
"Can't you just go away now?"
He put his hands together and stuck out his bottom lip, like he was begging. "Please? Pretty, pretty, please?"
"Hey, I thought she said back off," Will stated with a stern tone, coming from out of nowhere, he walks beside me and pulls on my arm, leading me away from Austin. Oh great, the other first place winner for the most annoying person, just my luck!
Austin gave out a small shout of protest but we had already rounded a corner and gone out of his line of sight.
"Sorry to complain after you just saved me, but my locker's the other way and I need to get my stuff for next period." He was still holding my arm, and I gently tugged at it, indicating that I wanted to be let go.
Apparently he didn't get the hint.
"Will, let go!" I shouted.
Finally, he let go, but instead of just leaving me alone at that point, he slid his hand down to mine, and grabbing my hand, he laced his fingers through mine.
I tried to set my hand free, but all he did was tighten his grip, not in a painful way, but in a way where I was trapped. Everyone was staring at this point.
I eventually stopped struggling, irritated by that satisfied smirk on his face. My attention drifted when I saw not only Austin walk around the corner to glare and curse at Will, but also to find Ashley Mathews, popular, Queen Bee, cheerleader, and so on, glaring at me.
"Well looky what we have here," said Ashley, gesturing toward me, "A useless piece of trash hanging onto the arm of my boyfriend." she turned to Will, "Will, honey, how much did this whore cost? Cuz it's not coming off my credit card." I heard some onlookers who totally "weren't" listening go "Ooh" when she said that.
She grabbed Will's hand, the one that wasn't holding mine, and yanked him away. Will winced and I could've sworn his arm was pulled out of its socket, but let go of my hand all the same. Ashley glanced at me and sneered under her breath, but loud enough for me and Will to hear, she said, "Fucking whore." Then she and her posse walked off down the hall with Will in tow.
One teacher poked their head out of their classroom door. I didn't have them or know them but apparently they knew Austin. "Austin Carr? You're supposed to be with Mrs. Patzeli right now so get your butt down there. Now."
He left and I sighed in relief. I looked at the clock; two minutes until class starts. The whole exchange had only taken about three minutes. It seemed way longer, but that's time for you. It never seems to want to work right.
I speed walk all the way to my locker, and try to unlock it as fast as I possibly can. I've been late to my next class, gym with Mr. Lane, only once before, and it wasn't the most pleasant experience.
The bell rang right as I ran into the empty locker room, before I had the chance to change.
I stripped and changed my clothing as fast as I possibly could, and then silently ran to the gym, opened the doors, and started jogging with the rest of my classmates, hoping that my late entrance would go unnoticed
I got stopped almost immediately.
"Ms. Summers? Why are you late today?" the teacher asked.
"Sorry Mr. Lane, I got caught up in traffic." This made him chuckle, the desired effect, and I got off with just a warning not to do it again.
I walked over to my best friend, Victoria Woods, the only reason I actually liked gym class. "Traffic, huh?" she asks sarcastically.
"You know, crowded halls and everything..." I looked away. Her being my best friend, she could guess what that meant.
"Uh oh. Them again?"
"Trust me, 'Uh oh' is an understatement." She rolled her eyes.
I realized we hadn't been listening to Mr. Lane and I tuned in just in time to hear him say, "-into four even groups, I don't care how you do it just do it quietly, please."
Victoria and I already knew we were going to be together. Apparently everyone else knew who they were going to be with, too. Two of the groups were already full. The other two had only one spot open, me and Victoria didn't have a group.
I saw a kid from one of the groups get shoved and he stumbled over to the other group. I was wondering who had pushed him when, suddenly, surprise!
It was Austin, who also just so happened to be in my gym class.
It was always Austin.
Everyone finally gathered into groups, leaving just Austin, Victoria and I, and we had no choice but to allow Austin to join us.
It's always Austin.
