Adriana's POV

Sighing we approached the castle at the very heart of Angmar. This was the home of the witch king, it was also the home of the great darkness that was covering Middle Earth.

"Here we are then, I suppose we'd better let the horses go." Sighed Tauriel. I nodded in agreement, letting go of Brisingr's reigns. The horses galloped off into the barren lands behind us. As I turned towards the castle dread filled me. This was my last stand.

It was made of black rock. Built as though it were rising from the ground. The light seemed to be dispelled as it drew closer. The whole fort was surrounded by shadow. Evil looking spikes topped the four turrets and the outer wall

As we made our way towards the fortress I could feel my legs dragging. My arms dropped to my sides and my shoulders slumped. It felt as though part of me was being dragged out of me and towards the looming castle before me. My mind began debating on whether I should just shadow-travel inside the fortress. I suggested my idea to Tauriel. After she nodded I attempted to use the shadows. Nothing happened.

"Tauriel?" I whimpered as my stance sank lower.

"Ria, are you alright?" She fretted. Looping her arm around my middle section she lifted my form into a standing position. It was as if my centre of gravity had changed, I felt myself being pulled towards the rock hewn keep. My magic was being drawn away, sucked into an invisible vortex.

"Ria do we continue or turn around?!" Tauriel asked urgently. I thought for a while. If we continued I may be putting Tauriel in needless danger, on the other hand I had to face this. A nagging feeling at the back of my head told me that it was Tauriel's choice to come anyway.

"We continue. I have to do this, go back Tauriel, unless you are willing to face death." I cautioned.

"I stand with you my lady." She whispered in my ear. This gave me the incentive I needed. I stood, my legs and arms regaining their strength. My magic returned and I could block out the pull against my soul. Doubt clouded my thoughts, my mind told me to turn and run, but my heart told me to face what was to come with dignity. A noble death I suppose.

We trudged on.

---------------------------------

Once inside the fortress the pull stopped. I found it so easy to walk all of a sudden. Grinning like a madwoman I drove forward.

There were no Orks or Goblins anywhere to be seen, which was strange. I would have expected the witch king to have servants or slaves. I doubted he would pay those who serve him.

Blood stained the stone walls, and splattered over the musty oil paintings on the walls. Cobweb covered candelabras hung from the roof at intervals and brackets holding flaming torches were attached to the walls. The hall we walked through was enormous. Not quite as large as in Mirkwood, but impressive all the same.

"It's so quiet in here, where are all the creatures of darkness?" Tauriel whispered into my ear.

"They must be at Dol Guldur. The Orks are there, making it seem as if the 'necromancer' is there. I'm sure he's here though. I can feel his presence.

"Very perceptive young one!" A shrill voice echoed around the hall.

From behind one of the columns running up the sides of the room appeared a shadow. It grew in size until it was the size of a man. Out of the shadows it came, a figure wrapped in dark armour stained with red. He was the man from my dream. The same dream that had haunted me every night since it was first witnessed.

"You appeared to me in my dreams!" I called. "You wanted me to join you..." Trailing off my mind worked at double pace. I realised this had all been a trap!

'Very good, though I was surprised that you did not realise before.' The figure taunted in my head.

'Face me like a warrior, do not hide between the words of a coward' I hissed back. The figure chuckled softly. I could not make out his face behind his helm, however, I knew he was smirking.

"Face me like a man!!!" I roared. My temper frayed and my patience snapped. Out of my mouth came a guttural roar, more ferocious than any sound I'd ever made before. To my dismay, the figure chuckled again. I felt the anger in every fibre of my being. I wanted to rip him apart, to kill him in the most painful way possible.

"You do not realise that your anger makes you more my servant than my own!" He chortled.

That was it...

I charged, my hands encased in shadow, brought out to a point.

I slashed across his stomach, spun and stabbed through his forehead. Loosing the shadows I opened my hand and grazed it through the figures forehead. I could see the pain and fear in his eyes an I Stepped back triumphantly, watching him fall.

"Tauriel, get back to the horses, I want to burn him." I asked, wanting to destroy every part of him.

The figures helm had not come off, so once Tauriel had left I reached my hands around it. Thinking that this test had been all too easy, I pulled on the helm.

Hands grabbed my wrists. His hands burning my clothes. This figure was a wraith.

Wraiths can only be killed by a stab or arrow to the chest. Their skin feels ice cold until it touches you, and then it burns like dragon fire.

Realising the scenario I twisted, trying to get my arms free before any lasting damage happened.

"Adriana!!!" I heard Tauriel scream.

"Get back to the horses! Get away from here!" I called back. The wraiths grasp was burning my skin off. I could feel the burning increase. Giving one final yank I dragged my hands away from its burning grasp.

"Stupid elf. If you will not join me, you will die!" It's voice sounded like that of a Nazgûl. High pitched and shrieking.

"I would rather die than serve such a fiend like you!" I called. Pain breaking my voice. I lunged, a blade extending from my arm. Slashing and cutting I fought to no avail.

I will never beat him.

The thought crashed through my mind. I saw an opening, so I took it. Thrusting my blade trough the wraiths heart I won the war. But it seemed as though I did not win this battle. A pain worse that before cut through me. I looked down to see that the wraiths ow blade had pierced my skin and sank into my stomach. I had killed the wraith, but it had got its own back.

I faded into darkness.
