"Dad! Dad please!" Tyler screams. Tyler's dad shifts and threatens me with his claws. "Dad she's my mate! She smells like that because she lived with them. She wasn't exiled. Please dad don't."

Lee stands in the corner, frozen with fear. Tyler's dad looks at me one more time before getting off and sulking over to another room to shift.

Snapping out of her trance, Lee runs in to scold her husband. "What the hell were you doing??? You were going to kill her weren't you!?!?" Faded shouts come from the other room. Tyler holds out his hand to help me up. I ignore it and push myself up.

"I'm so sorry. He has... issues."

"No kidding." I mumble. That was the closest I've ever been to death. I realize I'm not ready for it. I always told myself that death was welcoming. No worrying about how bad today's beating will be.

But things are different now.

"I'm sorry Violet." Tyler's dad murmurs. I bet Lee told him my name.

"It's alright Mr...."

"Call me Joel."  He doesn't look like a Joel. Maybe a Kyle.

"Ok Joel." I try to smile warmly, but it just looks angry. Tyler looks at me concerned but finally gets it. We look at each other awkwardly before I grab Tyler's hand and lead the way out the plant filled room.

"Do you want to watch a soccer game?" Tyler asks as he turns to me.

"Sure." I shrug.

Tyler stomps through the hall and reaches a door. He tries to kick it open, but it's locked. Wincing, he digs through his pocket and pulls out a key. Unlocking the door, he stumbles outside. All the while I'm laughing.

When we step outside, a cool breeze slaps me in the face.

A soccer field lays in front of us, an intense tied game like a 3D movie.

Tyler grabs my hand and says, "come on! Let's get a good spot." He points toward the bleachers. I simply sigh and run with him, hand in hand.

One of the teams is wearing red shirts, the other orange. Red team has London. Orange team has April, the girl I walked in on this morning.

Red team wins, even though I was cheering loud enough for penguins In Antarctica to hear. For the orange team of course.
