"Your the reason he left... your parents died because of you... you are a worthless piece of crap..." I run my 'mother's' words over and over again in my head. She broke down the night I decided to run away. Ever since she found out mason died in the war, every once in a while she'd break down and start crying, throwing things, and crap like that.
That night I told myself she didn't mean it. She was just upset. She's gonna come up to my room any minute and start to cry into my shoulder as i rub her back, while she's managing to mumble sincere apologies between sobs.
But she didn't.
So that morning, too early for Ahana or Emma to wake up, I left.
Now, years later, I look back on that night and don't feel a drop of pity for Ahana. I don't pity the widow who took me in and saved my life.
About a week after I left, I ran into a boney little girl who told me I was in a rouge packs territory and invited me in. I took her offer because I was starting to starve.
They made me an omega. Bottom rank.
Now I sit on my worn bed in the attic and ponder years ago.
"Omega!! Come here!!" Alpha shouts from downstairs. I sigh before pulling my dark brown hair back and swiftly walking down the stairs.
"Yes sir?" I reply, as I've done many times.
"Omega, this is-" my alpha starts.
"I'm Caitlyn, Burke's mate." She interrupts before taking my hand in hers and shaking it excitedly. I stare at this blonde woman who looks a little too much like Emma. No one calls alpha by his name. Surely alpha will correct her of this, but to my surprise, Alpha puts his hand around her waist and says nothing. "And you are?" She asks, flashing me a pearly white smile.
"Just call me omega ma'am," I say, just like alpha told us to do if someone asks our names.
"No no no. That isn't right." She looks at alpha before her eyes dart back over to me. "What's your name dear?"
"Ma'am, I ask you call me omega." I state, looking to alpha for approval to give her my name. Caitlyn catches my glance. She turns to alpha.
"All right.... then." She says quietly while eyeing both of us suspiciously. We stand there a while in awkward silence.
"Omega, I would appreciate if you make her stay as comfortable as possible." Alpha grunts, breaking the silence.
"Y-Yes sir." I stutter before dashing around a corner. I peer to look at them, hoping I'm not spotted. Alpha whispers something to beta. I watch them soundlessly. Beta nods and walks over to me, catching my arm in his hand.
"Come with me and don't you dare make a sound." He whispers. He ignores the fact that I was watching them.
I follow him to the basement.
"Alphas real mad you made a fool out of him in front of his mate. He wants me to teach you a lesson." He grumbles in a deep voice. He advances and sweeps my legs out from under me. Kicking me hard in the side, he drags me to my feet.
This was his fatal mistake.
When he tries to punch me in the stomach, I catch his hand, twisting it the wrong way. He gasps and stumbles back. I search my mind, looking for pressure points. Remembering the temples and webbing of the hands, I knock beta off his feet in one simple movement. God he's out of shape. Catching his head before it crashes to the ground, he looks up at me with a toothy grin. He thinks i caught his head to beg forgiveness.
Smiling back, I push firmly against his temples. He whimpers before wriggling out of my grip and retreating to the corner of the basement.
"Tell Burke I learnt his lesson. He doesn't deserve Caitlyn."
Brushing myself off and cursing under my breath, I climb the steep stairs and dart out the front door.
For the second time in my life I find myself running from rouges.
