The next morning, as dawn broke, the air was foggy and cold.  Only a trace of acrid smoke still ascended from the plane’s wreckage.  The lean-to had provided some protection from the chill of the night air but Jake’s exposed skin was covered in mosquito bites.  He was hungry but the fire was almost out.  If he let it go out, they might not be able to make more.  He worked through the achy legs and arms and found some branches.  It took some effort but he finally got the fire going again in spite of the dew.

As the day went on, Ming taught Jake which plants were edible and how to make a snare trap to catch rabbits.  Another glass water bottle was salvaged from the wreck and allowed Jake to bring water to Ming who was only able to hobble around a bit using his good leg.
