Jacob's POV (Third Person)
A quiet thump on his bed woke Jacob, drawing him from sleep slowly, as he tends to be a deep sleeper. He rose up, propping himself up with an arm behind him. The thing that made the thump was his cat, Lily. Called so because she was found in a patch of Easter lilies, she was white, with a few pale yellow spots on her coat, which was kept clean to please his mother. She never could stand dirt in the house, Jacob thought, remembering how she had been really mad when he had tracked mud in the house when he was 5 or 6.
She grounded me for a week just for tracking mud in the house. I wonder what her thing is about dirt. Lily interrupted his train of thought by pawing at his thigh, meowing forcefully. Jacob could almost hear her saying, Feed me, human! "Alright, Lily! Let me get dressed! What day is it, anyway?" He stumbled out of bed, throwing back the quilt and looking at his calendar, which was on the month of April, with about half of the days crossed out. "Oh crap! It's a school day! I'm gonna be so late!" In a panic, he raided his closet, putting on a plain blue polo, jeans with a darker wash than he normally wore, and his favorite pair of black Converse.
Rushing down the stairs, Lily hot on his heels, he opened the pantry door, grabbed the cat food, and fed Lily. Meowing her thanks, she bent down and started in on her meal. Jacob grabbed a Pop-tart, poured himself a glass of milk, and read the note he had ignored that was taped to the fridge. Jacob, the note read, sorry that I had to leave so early this morning, I got called into work. Have a great day, sweetie! Love, Mom. Jacob stared at the note for a second, then realized, I'm going to miss the bus! Stuffing the rest of his Pop-tart into his mouth, he ran upstairs, grabbed his backpack, ran back down, dashing out the door, while at the same time locking the front door, he ran to the bus stop- only to see the exhaust of the ancient yellow school bus puff its way around the corner.
"Well, there goes that plan," Jacob said, sitting down on the curb, until he jumped up, starting to run back to the house to get his bike, when- WHAM! Suddenly, he was on the ground, staring at one of the prettiest, but strangest, girls he had ever seen. She had long, auburn hair with one lone purple streak that was tucked inside of her messy side ponytail, which framed a pretty, heart-shaped face. She had on a ratty green tank top, that was a bit loose on her, but now was DEFINITELY too tight across her- ahem. No! Focus, Jacob! he thought to himself, then resumed his study of the girl. Her jeans were also tight, and they were ripped naturally across her knees and lower legs. Strangely, she didn't have a pair of shoes with her. But her most stunning feature was her crystal-blue eyes: almost twins to his own, but Jacob's eyes had faded into an ice-blue a long time ago. His icy eyes didn't give anything away, but this girl's eyes betrayed her surprise, but no pain from the collision was present in those eyes, like he expected.
"Are you ok?" he asked, and her eyes widened in surprise. "Sorry for running into you like that!" she said, then she got up off of the sidewalk and brushed herself off. "Are you late for something?" she asked, then Jacob remembered. He was late for school!
He turned back toward the bus stop, and said in a panic, "Oh man! I've got to go! Sorry about knocking you over like that, -What did you say your name was again?" But she was gone. Huh? Where did she go? he wondered. Right! Think about the weird girl later, right now I need to get to school! I'll look for her afterward. So, Jacob ran back to his house, which was only a few blocks away, grabbed his bike, and barely got to school in time. All without seeing a single glimpse of the new girl who had captured his interest.
