Amy's POV

"There's nothing back here, Doctor. Have you found anything so far?" I asked the Doctor as I walked toward him, curious as to what was going on. He seemed stressed, and to a very high level, unnaturally high. My voice faltered and I stumbled upon my words when I caught sight of her.

"River, talk to me! What happened?" The Doctor tried to get some information out of River as calmly as possible, but it wasn't working; his voice was shaking and he shouted at her. I could only watch as River breathed in and out, her eyes squeezed shut from an immense amount of pain. This shocked me, as I knew her to be such a strong woman. River Song, Melody Pond, my daughter. And here she was, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes.

"Is she going to be okay?" I asked the Doctor, my best friend in the whole universe. I knew who he was, every part of him, and I knew that he would do whatever it took to save River. He had done it once before, and he would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Well, in his case, two heartbeats.

To my frustration, the Doctor ignored my question and simply said, "Help me get her into this bed up here." I rolled my eyes and bit my tongue as I replied, "Doctor, you never answered me. Is my daughter going to be okay?" It was quiet as I obeyed him anyway and lifted my limp daughter in my arms, following the Doctor as he directed me as to where to take her to.

"It's obvious that's where I got my stubbornness from." River whispered unnervingly, her fists clenched at her side. Due to the stress and the gravity of the situation, I held back a burst of laughter. Apparently, the Doctor didn't seem to find it amusing, because he furrowed his eyebrows even deeper than they already were.

"River, now is not the time to be making jokes. You are in critical condition. What's wrong with you, anyway? It's hard to tell when you're all hunched over and stuff." River huffed deeply before saying quickly, "I was only trying to hint at Queen Elizabeth that she wasn't the only one to be married to you." The Doctor opened a door to my left and I set River carefully on the reclined bed with white medical sheets. "River! Why did you do that?" he asked furiously as I gazed down on my mischievous miracle of a daughter.

"It wasn't my fault! She kept going on and on about how much you loved her and would never leave her. I had to say something before her head got so big it would explode." River paused here to take a deep breath and smirk playfully at the Doctor. "Besides, you know how I love spoilers." He shook his head, annoyed, and asked, "How did you get like this?"

River chuckled deeply before replying. "Well, as I was leaving, because I absolutely couldn't take any more of it, she threw two daggers at me. One missed and flew close to my head; I think it chopped off some of my hair. The other hit me in the chest. I don't know where exactly. Haven't had time to investigate."

The Doctor pulled out his sonic and, holding it directly in front of River's face, began to move it down the side of her body. "I'm giving her a full body x-ray." The Doctor explained to me, making note of my confused and worried expression. To River, he said, "Lie still." Plugging the special screwdriver into a nearby machine, he made many complex charts and symbols appear on a screen attached to the wall opposite us. The Doctor appeared to be deep in thought as he studied the information; he pulled out a pair of professional-looking glasses.

"It seems, Professor Song, you have an injury known as pneumothorax." The Doctor announced, the analysis complete. "What?" I exclaimed, unaware of the possible danger my daughter was in. River, on the other hand, must've heard about this sort of thing before, since she muttered, "You've got to be joking." under her breath. "Otherwise known as collapsed lung." The Doctor mentioned to me once more as a side note.

"Serious or minor?" River asked him as she stared into his face with passionate curiosity. The Doctor shook his head sadly before glancing up at his wife with a wounded expression. "Serious." he responded. "Of course!" River exclaimed, breathing harder than before. "Because your other wife who now hates you had to throw that knife at me! Remind me again, Doctor. Why did you marry that disastrous woman?"

The Doctor began to reply. "River, what you've got to understand is-" "Doctor, we don't have time. We have to help her." I cut him off early with a warning and a stern look. I still wasn't sure what exactly was wrong with River, but by the looks of it, it didn't seem pretty. I continued my lecture. "If you let my daughter die here today, even if it's a complete accident; I swear, raggedy man, you will die here with her."

Annoyed at the Doctor and scared for River's safety, I attempted to calm myself by taking several deep breaths. Like that was going to help. I noticed the complicated couple in front of me giving each other raised eyebrows, smirks, and surprised glances.

"Well, at least let me add another member to the mix of this madness. Excuse me." the Doctor told me as he tapped my nose and slid past me, running with graceful clumsiness toward the console room near the entrance of the TARDIS. My mouth dropped open in shock as I turned to look at River. Just where did he think he was going at a time like this? It was only a minute before I discovered the answer to my question, as the Doctor rushed back in the room with none other than Rory Williams. Things were about to get complicated.
