Log date: April second, 201X.

Location: Mt. Ebott base.

I decided to keep a data log when I joined the military. You know, jotting down my thoughts and experiences in the war.

The commanding officer told me to scout out the nearby mountains for a place to set up camp. I did so, taking my gear and heading out. My supplies really just consisted of a hunting rifle, a trench knife, a shovel, my helmet and light armor, a canteen, first aid, and a scouting book for observation.

As I trekked through the base around Mt. Ebott, I took my time to admire the beauty in the forest. Despite the old fairy tales about monsters being banished under the mountain, I had to admit the scenery was wonderful. Much nicer than the battlefronts, certainly.

I was so focused on admiring the scenery, I didn't notice I was walking towards a large sinkhole. I felt something getting caught on my foot, and before I could correct myself, I had tripped. I was tumbling down the side of the cliff when a large rock struck my head, knocking me out before I could react.
