If you decide halfway down that jumping from something like a five story building window was a bad idea, it's a bit late. I fell pretty quickly, and had absolutely no idea to do when I hit the ground.
Well this is a stupid way to die. Intentionally jumping from a building window, but for my own credit, I had no idea it was up so high. I had about two more windows before I was a half-breed pancake, splat on the ground. What do I do? I could go ninja and do a- Smack. I landed on a tough bit of concrete and almost sat on the ground upon impact. I stood up. How was I not a pile of flesh right now? A sudden thought came to my mind, and I ran to find my books.
They were still there, in the carriage. I picked them up and scurried off towards a shaded tree. (Yeah, I know. Another tree. I am half Feyarie you know). I opened up the first book, which technically wasn't a book. It was a journal. The first page proved my suspicions. This was Marcus' journal. He'd kept it before he left. It was a brown leather hardcover, and wasn't too big. I opened the first page, and was met by neat handwriting.
'I Am am so exited! I have finally found a place for all half breeds to live in peace, out of harm's way.' Wow. I'd expected something more for someone go had just discovered a lost city, but he probably done heaps of scanning the city and organizing repairs. The next pages were all about how happy he was and how the repairs were going smoothly. One page caught my eye. 'There have been numerous reports on strange occurrences and happenings in the lower levels of buildings in the western side of the city. I went down one today and as soon as I stepped foot into the basement, I sensed an over powering presence. I will go back down tomorrow and check if the feeling goes away.'
Marcus went on about how he checked and checked and checked but couldn't find what was causing the feeling. 'Today I found a scrap price of paper. It was old, maybe even centuries old. I poured over it and discovered that on it is sketch of a gem. There were words next to it, which I've had to translate because it is in the Old Speaking. It is truly important for it to have been drawn in that time frame. The translations said that the gem is a key to an unlimited power, so strong that the gods themselves ordered its destruction. Alas, when the lightning bolt intended to destroy the gem hit, waves of energy bounced back off and destroyed everything around the universe other than the gods. Bits and pieces of the universe joined together and formed many worlds, two of which life was created on.
'One world was called Heaven. A blissful, perfect world. The other was named by Volcano as Hell, meaning in the Old Speaking Evil's Paradise. According to the translations, it was exactly that. A paradise for evil. It was there that Satan was born and sired his demon children. One of Satan's children, Human, travelled to another world and somehow created a race which are called humans.
'Leftover pieces of the energy from the explosion, over the millennia, formed on different worlds and also created different races. Our races! We were created by the combined energy of a lightning bolt and a powerful gem! Our worlds, even the world of humans, are created by leftover pieces of the gods' universe! This is a major discovery and I cannot wait until everyone hears of this.' I was speechless. There was literally nothing I could get myself to say. I flicked through more pages. 'I brought my discovery to the council. They did not believe me! They thought it was a fake. No one could possibly know how we and our worlds were formed. I will prove to them that they were wrong. They said I was crazy! I went down to the basement, the one with the strange feeling. I am sure I know what causes the feeling. The Gem itself. I will find it, and show them. If I cannot find it, I will keep going back.'
All of the pages after this were torn this way and that. I frantically tried to make sense of what I could read. 'Whispers...Power...Gem...In t- dark...Offer...don't want to betray them...no respect...agree...hate...furious...going to...hidden...follow...leave.' It was so frustrating! It made no sense! I read over the words again and my eyes widened. I had to go find Jason.
When I did find Jason, he was back at the carriage. "Where have you been?" He asked angrily. "Just...thinking." I didn't say anything about the books, which I had hidden back at the tree. Jason glared at me. "You cause some freak accidents, then you jump out of a six story building window just to think?" He hissed. For once the fact that he was angry with me didn't make me cry. "Can I ask a question?" I asked Jason. He was taken aback. "What? I guess so." He replied, confused. "What happened to Marcus before he left? Was he angry?" I asked. Jason gave me a look. "Why do you want to know that?" "I just wanted to know why he'd want to leave so bad." I said carefully. Jason nodded knowingly. "Well, before he left he was going on about some non-existent gem. We turned him down, of course. He vowed to prove us wrong and kept going to look for it.
"Every day he would get more agitated, more...dark. Much unlike that happy Marcus we knew. He was so angry, so annoyed. He kept whispering things to himself. We told him he was mad. Then he just disappeared." I gave Jason a frown. "We? You kept saying we." I pointed out. Jason gave me a smile. "We. I am one of the Council members Syrus." He told me. Jason was a council member? So he didn't believe Marcus and even told him he was crazy, after all Marcus had done. I gave Jason a suspicious look. He noticed. "What?" He asked. "Nothing." Was all I told him. He kept looking at me. "There was more reason for you to ask me about Marcus. What was it?" He said demandingly and took a step forward. I took a step back. "There wasn't." I squeaked. He took another step closer. "You're lying." He said accusingly. I shook my head. "No." Jason's arms flashed out to grab me but I turned and ran as fast as I could. As I ran I got an idea. Where did I run? West of the city.
