This is from Keith's point of view, in case you get confused.
I blew it. I blew it. I blew it. I blew it. I blew it. I blew it. I FUCKIN' BLEW IT. DAMMIT KEITH. YAIN'T GETTING ANOTHER CHANCE AT THIS DAMMIT! UGHHHHHHHH!
Keith continued to violently punch what was left of the gladiator machine, its head destroyed and its left arm hanging by a lifeline. Whenever Keith couldn't deal with something emotionally, he simply trained to let his frustration out.
Mad. Annoyed. Irritated. Irked. Furious. Aggressive. Pissed the hell off.
This basically described Keith at the moment, and for one reason. Lance.
Before Keith had gotten accepted into the Garrison, he was endlessly pushed back and forth in the foster care system. Being without a home, without a family, without love, Keith had changed. He was cold, uncaring, and simply apathetic. He had thought the Garrison could cure his loneliness, his deprivation, but he was let down like all the previous times in his life.
He was naturally an exceptional fighter pilot, so amazing it set him apart from the rest. For the worst. He was always seen as stuck-up, arrogant, conceited, pretentious, and even frightening. He changed more. Different than the child he was in foster care. In fact, completely opposite. He was short-tempered, always sarcastic, straightforward and quick to speak his mind. He would let you know when he didn't like something or someone. It was always 'do first, think later' with him.
Now, he's the paladin of the Red Lion, saving planets among the billions and billions of stars from the Galra Empire.
His own blood.
Keith shook his head and discarded the thought, and glanced at his bloody knuckles. The blood was smeared, but seemed to glisten. Yet another reminder of why he was a failure, not only to himself, but the whole fucking Universe.
It was time for breakfast now, you could hear the non-chalant yet happy voices coming from the dining room. He shook his head and went to his room to get dressed in his usual cropped jacket and black shirt, paired with black pants. It's not like he had shit packed for space voyages.
Walking quietly into dining room, he was a little surprised to see a distressed Lance having a conversation with Pidge. She had a sincere look on her face, and when she turned to look at me when I came in, her face looked sickened at the sign of me. I'm sure Lance told her all about how I acted.
How I acted. Fuck.
First, Lance was acting weird. He seemed to have a more compulsive aura around him, and then he kissed me. He kissed me. He fuckin' kissed me.
And... I pushed him away, and I left, because I'm a coward. Too scared to accept myself.
.
I'm pretty sure everyone would accept me here, they're all very caring and helpful, but... you know. (no, I don't know. Keith explain.)Ignoring Pidge then sitting down, Hunk smiled at him. "Mornin, Keith."
Keith held up a weak smile and replied with, "Mornin."
Shiro was talking with Allura and hadn't noticed Keith. Or maybe he did. All in all, Shiro didn't acknowledge him. Yet.
"Um. Excuse me, I have an announcement to make." Keith could feel his heart beating faster than ever, and so many pairs of eyes on him. He wanted to back out, he wanted to give up. He wanted to hide and never come out.
After Keith had hesitated for too long, Allura cleared her throat. "Yes, Keith?"
Shit.
"Um... I'm gay. And so... yeah." He sat down and winced, trying to prepare himself for the worst, like he's done all his life.
Coran and Allura looked confused. Pidge looked somewhat happy. Shiro was elated, almost proud? Hunk sent him a large smile. And Lance...
Lance looked hurt.
He met my eyes briefly, and then started scarfing down his space goo.
"That's great, Keith!" Shiro walked over to me and put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "It must've taken a lot of courage to tell us. But I'm glad you did."
Hunk added in, "Me too."
Coran still looked puzzled. "Excuse me paladins... but what is the gay?"
Pidge snorted and Hunk suppressed a laugh.
Staying composed, Shiro said, "When a man loves a—"
Pidge wriggled out of her seat and chuckled. "There is no way I'm hearing this bullshit."
After she left, Lance followed close after, as did Hunk. Keith still sat there, unable to process anything.
He didn't feel mad anymore, he felt relieved. Now that he'd finally let that particular piece of shit out of him, he was finally free of this burden. Now, he had to work things out with Lance.
