taehyung let out a small sigh, feeling regret pile up in his stomach.

"i told you not to touch the flowers, taehyung! you're so stupid," his mother scolded, slapping taehyung lightly.

he really was sorry, but the words were caught in his throat and he felt like he'd breakdown in tears at any moment.

"i-i'm sorry, eomma." he looked down at his feet, letting his mother shame him.

his mother walked away, leaving a frazzled and tearful taehyung behind.

he walked to his best friend's house, which was thankfully walking distance, while trying his best to contain his tears. his lips were trembling slightly.

"gukkie hyung!" he wailed, feeling warm tears stain his rosey cheeks.

although the latter was younger than taehyung, taehyung had always liked the idea of having an older brother, since he didn't have anyone else to take care of him. and jeongguk liked the idea of being the older, responsible one.

jeongguk looked at him, his eyes filled with concern. "taehyungie, why are you crying?"

"eomma said i was stupid."

jeongguk pulled taehyung in a protective hug. "don't listen to eomma. you're not stupid."

"i-i didn't mean to, i just really like the flowers!" he cried a little harder.

"it's okay, i love you." jeongguk nuzzled taehyung, inhaling his sweet scent.

the phrase 'i love you' was nothing special between the two. it was something they both said to each other as if it were nothing.

after all, they were both only 6.

"you-you don't listen to her. you're so precious, taehyungie." jeongguk pet his hair to comfort him, making the older stop crying.

he ruffled taehyung's hair and gave him a peck on his nose.

"you're a good kid, taetae. you're my pretty little rose."
