Luke suddenly remembered that Vader's respirator was broken. Vader was relying on the force to breathe. Luke ran into the shuttle and saw stormtrooper helmets. He took them and started getting to work. Luke ripped of the respirator and noticed it only blocked out smoke so it wasn't able to help someone breathe so then he went to 2-1B surgical droid and brought Vader along.
Luke told Vader to meet him at the shuttle when 2-1B was done operating on Vader. About a few hours later Vader returned to the shuttle. Luke examined Vader's respirator and it looked like it worked!!!
