She's gone.

You don't know that. She probs just got lost

She wouldn't get lost if she can almost see our house from Target. Only if she were a little kid, would I believe that.

...Haze

She is just a little kid

True

Do you have a plan?

Everyone thinks she was killed

What else could have happened??

After the final text, Hazel ignored it out of anger and put her head in her hands. She hadn't wanted to leave her sister in the first place, but she did and April was missing and there was no going back.

Dylan was acting out of sorts. Usually, he was supportive and took the time to analyze the strange things that happened in his friend's life, but today he was different.

"Not Dylan. Please don't let Dylan not care...April is my sister," Hazel said aloud to the wall. Obviously, it didn't offer a reply. Dylan was closer to Hazel than anyone else, with the exception of April, and it was Hazel who made the boy who he was, so the least he could do was fake his feelings for her.

So I take it you think she's dead?

The text took a full forty minutes to form, as Hazel simply had nothing to say. She didn't particularly enjoy the thought of her sister and best friend being dead. The girls' mother was no help, either. Since her youngest daughter's disappearance, Lucinda had done nothing but lay in bed, weeping over the poor decision she had made; allowing April to shop alone.

I'm not saying that...but I think you should prepare yourself for the possibility...

Dylan was right.

But he was also wrong.

Yes, it was a very real possibility that April's disappearance had lead to the girl's tragic end, but at the same time, she could very well be alive. With that, Hazel sighed and contemplated her next response.

It will be okay.

"Oh, but Dylan, will it?" She spoke.

I may not be very helpful, but you can talk to me if you need to

The third text caused a tiny smile to form on Hazel's lips. His words reminded her of why she liked him in the first place.

"You know, the Valentine's dance is in three days and Eric still hasn't asked me!" April exclaimed while sitting on the counter of the Pizza Hut inside of Target.

"April, you're eleven." Hazel kindly reminded her.

"Your point? Our school does all the same dances for all the grades. All my friends have dates, and if Eric doesn't ask me..." April worried. Hazel only chuckled. Though she loved attending the same school as her sister, the whole thing was exhausting at times.

"Yeah well at least you won't have to go with Creepy Neighbor Andy!" Hazel cried in horror. April looked disgusted. "Why would you go with him?!"

"Everyone else is already going with someone, and I can't not go with anyone! Imagine the damage to my reputation!" Hazel replied, the thought of it making her grow tired. "Hazel, you turned down like, five guys." April countered.

"Yeah, that's because I didn't know any of them. They only wanted to go with me for popularity, and I spent years rising to the top, I'm not letting anyone take the high road."

"Except for Dylan." April smirked.

"What's Dylan got to do with this?" Hazel asked, straightening up glaring daggers at the girl beside her. "He wasn't popular before you became his 'friend,'" said April, using air quotations at the word "friend."

I'll let you know, Dill Pickle

Thx Haze
