Chapter 1~ Not Really Much of a Family

"Katherine Leigh Irwin! Get down here! Dinner's ready and we're waiting!" My Dad yelled from down the stairs.

I quickly ran down the stairs yanking my headphones out from my ears on the way.

"Sorry. I was doing homework." I sat next to my brother, Ashton, who has already started eating.

"So, father. How was work today?" I asked hoping he will forget that I was late to the table.

"It was fine Katherine. Thank you for asking." He said back.

"Did you arrest anyone?" Ashton said with food flying out of his mouth every which way.

"Of course I did. I always do." My dad said proudly.

My dad is the chief of police of Gothemsburg, Montana. He doesn't like us calling him Dad. He only accepts father, sir and Chief but I call him Dad anyways. Gothemsburg is a small town but a lot of trouble goes on. It's mostly drugs, house break-ins, and robbery. My family lives in the nicest neighborhood where barely any crime occurs. The security is really high on all of the houses so they all seem to stay away. I live with my dad and brother so I don't know. It's not really much of a family. Ashton is 1 year older than me. He's 19 and I just turned 18 a few weeks ago. I am currently a senior with a 4.00 gpa. My dad won't except any less. Ashton on the other hand got held back in 10th grade so we've been stuck together for about 3 years now learning the same stuff. I let him copy off of my homework because if I didn't then he'll fail and I just don't want that to happen to my brother again.

"Can I have your bread roll?" Ashton asked with his mouth full of food.

"Sure take it." I said pushing my whole plate over.

"Nope!" Dad yelled. "Katherine. Finish your plate."

"I am no longer hungry." I replied.

"I don't care. I worked hard on this supper and you're going to eat it."

I sighed. "Yes sir."

After eating all my food I went upstairs, took a shower and then went to bed.
