Edward wiped the sweat from his brow. He was seated on a bench; his eyes downcast, gazing on the footsteps of people passing by the busy train station. His thoughts were nowhere when someone blocked his view.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you happen to be Mr. Edward Elric?" The man asked.
They were now looking at each other. Studying his features, the man looks perfectly normal. His grayish hair quite matches his brown classic suit. Looking at his pale complexion and a bony face, he seemed ill. His face was scarred which made Ed remember someone he knew. "Yes that is me." He answered at last.
"Good. I thought I'd never find you." He replied and hastily took out a piece of parchment out of his pocket and handed it to him. With a glance on the paper, he already knew who this man is.
"I'm Remus Lupin, just call me Lupin. I'll be your guide." He reached out for a handshake in which Ed responded well. Perhaps, he thought as Remus smiled at him, this man is more trustworthy than Dumbledore whose sense of fashion he cannot fathom.
Remus didn't protest when Ed suggested that they leave immediately knowing that they were ten minutes late from their supposed meeting time. It gave Remus an impression that Ed is an impatient man, which he really is.
"Wait, Mr. Elric." Remus mused.
"Just Ed."
"Okay. Ed, I presume you're heading on the wrong direction." Ed gave a quizzical look.
"We're not boarding the train. This way please."
Ed's quite torn if he'll follow his orders. The train leaves just five minutes from now and Ed doesn't think he could wait for another couple of hours for the next trip.
"They're all so complicated." He mumbled to himself. He's got no choice anyway but to trust his guide.
They snaked their way around the station and ended up in a small alleyway. The place is quite damp and smells rust and oil. He suddenly remembered Winry. A smirk escaped from his lips hoping she's fine to where she is now.
"Hey Lupin, where are we going?" Ed asked.
"You'll see when we get there." Lupin responded as they continue to walk deeper the alley. Ed had been here for a long time now but never been in this part of the town.
At the end of the alley comes a gate. It brought him nostalgia sending shivers to his bones. Lupin noticed him twitch. "Are you all right Ed?" He mused.
"I'm fine. I just have terrible experience with gates, that's all."
"Aa. Don't worry, this one is quite safe." Lupin responded as he pulled out a stick and tapped at the gate once. Ed heard loud metallic clicks and what sounded like a clatter of chains.
By the looks of it, it's not just an ordinary gate. There were peculiar images engraved on it with a snake shaped handle. It should be creepy in its own way but the color nullifies it all.
The clattering stopped after a minute then Lupin gave him a small piece of parchment. He looked at it with the same handwriting as before. It said: Number 12 Grimmauld Place, London.
"What do I do with this?" Ed asked.
"Memorize it." He did as told. "So, what now?"
Lupin took the paper from his grip and set it on flames with his wand. As the flames turn the paper into ashes, Ed stared at him waiting for an explanation.
"Remember what was written in the parchment?" Lupin questioned while Ed nod in affirmation. "I want you to think of it as we open that gate together." said Lupin as he motioned Ed closer to the gate.
