We are less then two hours into the journey before the boredom returns with vengeance and I begin playing with my black miniskirt. It's frills are irritating me so much, or maybe that is just the repetitive landscape. Just constant rolling hills, its like we never left Wales.
"Would you stop tutting and poking your skirt please? It's making me want to jab needles in my eyes and I need to see to drive." I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one dulled to near brain death.
I flick through radio stations but nothing lifts my mood and we have already listened to every album with us. We are driving through a small town when Damari makes a sudden turn and parks the car in the car park.
"I think we could both use a day off." I beam at him and throw my arms around his neck, this is exactly what I need. We both get out the car, carefully taking the laundry filled bags so not to wake Mystica. "I wonder if there are any bacon free restaurants here so we can get some lunch."
I hit him playfully with one of the bags and we wander down the street. There is a laundrette on the corner and I nearly cry at the delight of shortly having clean clothes. In hindsight I should have packed more but things were so strained I didn't have the time.
The lady tells us that everything will be done within the hour, giving us time to grab food and still get back to the car before Mystica wakens and shreds it, as she'd already done to one of the pillows
The woman then points us in the direction of what she calls "the best diner in the whole damn state".
It only takes a couple minutes of walking before we find it. Its the picture perfect American style restaurant, complete with gaudy wallpaper and the old fashion "booths". We are both led to a table and quickly place our orders.
"Thank you for this Damari, I was going mental in the car. You know I've always wanted to do a road trip but I didn't think I would find it this painful." He laughs, taking a sip of his enormous glass of a fizxy drink.
"I know what you mean. There is a campsite a mile or so out of town, shall we stay there tonight? I know we haven't exactly gone far today but if we carry on things won't get pretty, like yesterday. Also, if the campsite is empty we could do with some practice."
I nod, grinning at the prospect of handing him his ass later. The waitress then brings us our food, dawdling handing Damari his. Her desperation makes me want hit her, I hope this isn't the way I am around hot guys.
"You should totally go and ask her for her number." I tell him with a mouthful of my salad. He gives me a puzzled expression, there is no way he can be that frigging dull. "She is totally hitting on you, go get her number."
"Not a chance. You know the rules, leave them with nothing but a fake name and a pocket of cash when necessary." He replies, after finishing the last mouthful of his stake. Damn he eats so fast.
"Why not have a little fun Damari? It won't kill you." He gives me the warning look so I go back to quietly munching my rabbit food. Maybe there really is no such thing as too much bacon, I sure would prefer some to a pile of lettuce.
We pay at the counter and true to his word, Damari leaves the girl with nothing but a sulky face. I stop by the laundrette to grab the clothes while Damari runs back to the car, muttering all the things he will do to my cat should she have done anything.
By the time I have juggled the three bursting bags back to the car, a shocking scene lays before me. Damari is sat in the front seat with Mystica curled in his lap. I raise my eyebrows at him as I place the bags behind the passenger seat. He says nothing but lifts her off him and into the bag where she nestles into a sleeping bag.
