I didn't sleep well. A thousand nightmares played over and over in my mind. I woke up shaking and sweating everytime, scared to close my eyes again. It was a long, dark night.
Light shined through my eyelids. All was orange. I felt streams of heat over my face and blanket from rays of sun seaping through the roof. Everything seemed so peaceful, for once.
I rolled over onto my side, facing the couch. I stretched and groaned until I finally blinked my eyes open. My vision was blurry, until it focused on an apple placed next to me. I went to grab it. It was smooth and firm in my fingers. I traced over the small bumps and the odd bruise with my thumb.
A: " That's your breakfast. You're welcome." Alex's voice spoke behind me
I sat up, the blanket falling to my thighs, and i bit into the apple. A drop of juice escaped my lips. The taste was heavenly. I hadn't eaten in days. I didn't savour one bit of it and I had finished it in seconds. I looked up to find Alex
He was sitting down, hunched over on a crate, facing me. He looked tired with crinkled clothes, stubble across his chin, and his hair swiped back out of his face. He looked aggertated.
M: " Are- Are you okay?"
A: " Yes. Why wouldn't I be?"
M: " You look worried"
A: " I'm fine!"
M: " Oh okay..."
Alex shot up and kicked the crate back with anger. He started to march to the door.
M: " Where are you go-"
A: " Shut Up!" He yelled at me over his shoulder. He slipped passed the door and disappeared with the door slamming behind him.
I was alone. They've left me alone. I could run, I could escape right now. But what was stopping me?
Between my nightmares i would see a shadowed face. His jawline and his eyes. His lips...
I stayed to maybe be able to see Jason's face again. It's sick how i crave the one who hurts me.
I threw the apple core aside and tried to stand up. My legs weak and shaky but i kept my balance. I heard a car engine roar, and the screech of tires as it teared up the sand and sped down the deserts road.
I started to walk towards the door, each step was an effort, and dropped the blanket behind me and went to open the door. It was golden yellow outside. I shielded my eyes as i was blinded by the suns blaze. It was hot. I saw nothing but hills of sand and a strip of road. A road to nowhere, in the middle of nowhere. My hair tangled around my neck as a gentle breeze tickled in the air.
I walked out slowly, to the middle of the road. The ground underneath me burned my feet. I opened my hands out by the side of me and felt the wind play through my fingers and legs. It was awfully refreshing. I closed my eyes and lifted my head.
Being on the edge of danger seemed to be my new high.
I heard something in the background. I squinted one eye open and a car was coming my way. As it got closer, an old beat up rolls royce came into focus. A murky green paint job that was chipping off.
I was going crazy. I didn't bother to move, but my heart started to race.
It got closer, and closer. And closer.
The driver started to become clear. It was Jason.
He looked angry. And scared. He didn't notice me until he broke from his daze. He looked up at my face and he slammed on the brake. The car screeched to a holt a few feet infront of me. We both just stared at eachother. I looked closer at him and i could see specks of blood splattered across his face.
The car engine died and he got out, letting the door fall shut behind him. We were both still wearing the black hoodies from the robbery, but his was stained red, and his baggy jeans hung low. He walked towards me, our eyes never parted. He stopped infront of me, and just about towered over.
M: " Jason?... What happened?" He looked down and gave a small smirk.
J: " You'll thank me"
M: " That doesn't answer my question" He looked back up at me
J: " Where's Alex? And why are you standing in the middle of the road?"
M: " Alex left... And I was standing here becau-"
J: " Woah wait, what? Alex left? Why?"
M: " I don't know! He didn't say!"
I expected Jason to rage out. To flip over another table or punch a wall. But he kept calm. He was furious, but he stayed calm.
J: " Okay..."
M: " You still haven't answered my question!"
He sighed and started to walk to the warehouse. I wasn't done with him, i grabbed his wrist and stopped him.
M: " Jason?!" He looked over at me.
J: " Come inside!"
M: " What about your car? You can't just leave it in the middle of the road!"
J: " It'll be fine, no one comes down here" I breathed out.
M: " Fine..." I let go of his wrist and followed him back into the warehouse. We walked through the door and looked around. Jason noticed the blankets and towels. He got a smug look on his face, I wasn't sure why...
I turned to him.
M: " Going to answer my question now?"
J: " What was it?"
M: " Where have you been? And why are you covered in blood?"
J: " Uh, well me and Ralph went on a job together-"
M: " Where is he now?"
J: " Will you let me finish? You ask too many questions! Anyway. I drove us down the desert whilst he told me what he told Alex last night-"
M: " That.. I work for him now..."
J: " Yeah. So i stopped the car." He paused
M: " Why?"
I was so focused on what Jason was saying, i hadn't realised how close he got to me.
We were nose to nose, again.
He lifted his hand and started to stroke my neck. Pushing my hair away with his fingers. He stepped closer and stroked my face with his thumb with his other hand. His lips, brushed mine. He looked at me one more time then kissed me. Hard.
I grabbed the front of his hoodie as his hands stroked my neck. I followed his lead and let him in. His tongue played with mine.
He lent into me and i stepped back, but he didn't stop. I didn't want him to.
But then he stopped.
J: " You're with me now."
M: " What do you mean?"
J: " Ralphs dead. I killed him. You work for me now."
I couldn't believe what i just heard.
M: " Whu- how?!"
J: " That doesn't matter!"
He reached for me and kissed me again. I cupped his jawline and his hands squeezed against my back.
This was what i wanted. Jason.
