It all started when I auditioned to be an idol at Fantagio Entertainment. I went through the usual process, from the initial online audition, to the final and actual one. The entertainment seemed hesitant to accept me at first but they seemed to have realized something about me being a crucial part in the group's dance unit. I was glad that I got in. I knew the chance of my group getting popular was thin but I got to have faith. I started my training with five other boys, four of which were older than me and the other one being one year younger.
We got to the usual vocal practice. We had to sing a piece in front of everyone including the instructor. Said instructor said that it would be fine to just go in the order of oldest to youngest. We nodded our heads.
A guy walked up to the front of the studio and introduced himself as Myungjun. He was considerably small for his age since I was around his height and I'm five years younger than him. He started singing and I was at a loss for words. His angelic voice hit every note with such perfection that even the instructor applauded after his performance. "Well, you certainly need only little improvement after what I just heard." He said.
The rest went on for that while until it was my turn. I walked up front. Nervous as hell. I'm not really confident with my singing that's why I auditioned with a dance piece. I took a deep breath before saying, "Good Morning everyone. I am Park Minhyuk but you can call me anything you'd like to," with a shy smile.
I took a deep breath again and started singing. Sometime during the song, I closed my eyes to feel less nervous.
I may not be confident in singing, but I know how to control my voice to maintain a note or to belt out for some time.
The song concluded and I re-opened my eyes to see the other guys looking straight at me with no reaction whatsoever. I felt nervous again and fumbled with the hem of my shirt. The silence was eating me up so I just said, well more like mumbled, "Thank you" and bowed before going to my spot.
The instructor clapped his hands before saying, "That was a valent effort Minhyuk. We can work on some of the crucial parts of your singing but overall, that was good."
I smiled and bowed saying thanks again. I felt as though a thorn was taken out of my throat. I thought I sang that badly to make them stare at me as hard as stone.
Then came the last kid, Sanha. For someone so young, he definitely can sing. His voice still hasn't fully developed yet though so his tone cracked a few times, but he didn't really cared. We clapped our hands for him.
"I'm really sorry about the cracking of my voice, I could've done it better." He said with regret. He did better than I, even if my voice wasn't cracking like his.
"That's understandable Sanha. All of us go through puberty and all our voices crack during that time. We can work on stability for when you perform live, it won't crack as much." The instructor said, before concluding the session we had.
The group was walking to our dorm, talking as usual. Being the new kid, I didn't really know anyone yet except Sanha, but he was talking with someone up front. What I didn't expect was another trainee came over my side and introduced himself.
"Hi, the name's Moon Bin." He said with a smile. It kind of reminded me of a cat. He had this chic vibe eventhough he was just looking at me. I shook my head from my thoughts and replied, "I'm Minhyuk. Should I call you hyung or~" I let the question hanging, waiting for him to reply.
"I was born in '98, how about you?" He asked. He doesn't really look like someone older than me to be honest. His physique makes him look a bit younger than his real age. "A-ahh I'm gonna call you hyung then. I was born in '99." I replied.
"Listen," He started. "You really have a nice voice Minhyuk. And I liked the song that you sang." I smiled. I didn't think anyone would talk to me, much less approach me, about earlier today. "Thanks hyung. I thought no one liked my voice that's why you were all staring at me as if I had a disease or something." I replied.
He was the first one among the group to actually approach me. I was kind of glad though. He made me feel like I belong to the bunch. Bin hyung always looks out for me though I rarely need help. He is the reason I got close to the others. He introduced me to them as if he was my brother. Because of him, all of us have gotten along well.
Our bond grew into something really special. We would inform each other about our free time from school. Then we'd hang out till it was dark or until we had to go to the company to rehearse. I was happy at the time.
Then one day, a new trainee got into the company. He was tall, like a model. He had milky white skin that glowed in the sunlight. His face was angelic I'd give him that. And he had this 'prince charming' vibe that can not be missed by anyone in the room.
He introduced himself as Dongmin. He was a year older than Bin hyung. The company representatives said that he'd be the group's visual. All of us agreed. Well, who wouldn't? He was perfect for the title.
Of course being closer in age, he hung out with Bin hyung more than the others. He always sticks by him so I got to hang out with him as well. He was pretty cool. He had this cool and calm personality that won't falter even after five hours of dancing lessons from training.
We were close, but him and Bin hyung were closer. I'd say the two (Bin and Dongmin hyung) were near our (Bin hyung and mine's) closeness. I wouldn't complain. Bin hyung had this personality that will ensure definite closeness to all his friends. He said that he likes every one of his friends to be close to each other since he was the common friend.
"Rocky-yah. Yah! Rocky!!"
"Rocky-yah!!" Someone shook me. I blinked a couple of times before rubbing my eyes to remove the sleep from them. I yawned and stretched before looking at the person in front of me. "Y-yes Jinjin hyung?" I asked tiredly.
"Bin told me to wake you up. He had something to tell you. He said he's sitting on the couch." Jinjin hyung answered. I got up and went to the couch as Bin hyung asked me to.
