[THIRD POINT OF VIEW]
KWON AREUM SILENTLY GROWLED IN ANNOYANCE AS SHE STARED AT HIS BACK FROM HER PLACE. She always had been the one to seat at the back of the class - maybe it was because she often got good grades, so the teachers didn't have to dwell most of their time on teaching her.
But excellent grades weren't enough. It wasn't enough to impress anyone - which brings her to the reason why she had been glaring at Lee Daehwi's back for the past few hours. That boy could simply smile, and the whole world would awe at its beauty.
Areum was always envious of him. How could he do everything so perfectly while looking beautiful? From singing to rapping to dancing; he was incredibly talented, to the point where she would wonder whether he was human or not.
Daehwi had no flaws whatsoever - heck, rumors even say that he was currently training under Brand New Music, and everyone knew how much that hip-hop centered company was important to most young teens.
"Areum-ah, you'll have to pair up with Daehwi on this week's study partner. He's been missing classes so you have to teach him what he missed, okay?" Areum widened her eyes at the sight of her Physics teacher in front of her, disrupting her morbid and murderous thoughts.
Again, Areum was reminded on how much she sucked having good grades. Because she was the top of her class, Mr. Jung always picked her in doing whatever he asked - and now, she falls as a victim to him again.
Areum sighed lowly, nodding her head before turning her attention to where Daehwi was seated. And sure enough, he was staring at her with a bright smile.
"I hate you for being so perfect."
Classes went by quickly after that, which Areum was thankful for since time always seemed to slow down when lessons were in session. However, she had another problem to face as a smiling tall boy made his way towards her.
"Areumie! This is our first time as study partners, right? I'm always paired up with Sameul - ah, it's a good thing my grades dropped! If it continues dropping, maybe you'll be my partner forever! How is it inside your brain? Why are you so smart? Areum-ah, can you do an experiment on me so I can be a zombie and then I can eat your brain and be smart too? Areu-"
Areum had to push her finger to his lips to stop him from talking. She felt like her ears would soon break if he did. Was he normally this talkative? Areum never really knew since this was the first time they had a conversation other than their usual 'hello's, 'can I borrow a pencil?' and such.
"You talk too much," Areum said monotonously, but blushed once she realized how soft his lips felt on her finger. Daehwi's eyes widened, probably taken aback at the same reason and held her hand, pulling it away from his lips.
Areum's heartbeat quickened, feeling woozy at the feeling of her hands coming into contact with Daehwi's - it was too soft and fluffy, Areum wished she could hold those hands everyday. She then realized the depth of her thoughts and immediately let go of his hands. How could she be thinking about him every single day?
Areum hated how Daehwi always managed to make his way into her head. And now, he was right in front of him and all she could ever think about was hugging him.
"I must be insane," Areum mumbled quietly to herself before rushing to keep her things into her bag. Daehwi shrugged his thoughts away and helped her keep her books.
"Let's go to the library to the study? I'm really behind on the lessons," Daehwi whined with a cute pout atop his lips. Areum had to take a deep breathe before she was able to snap out of it.
For some reason, she was getting dizzy at the sight of him - it was as if she was bombarded with all kinds of emotion just by mainting eye contact. The feeling was new and surreal, Areum had to wonder if she should visit the psychiatrist the next day.
"Areum? Are you alright? Your cheeks are red," Daehwi said worriedly, continuing to move nearer to her, placing a hand on her forehead afterwards.
His eyes widened in concern. "You're burning up! Let's go to the nurse first, okay?"
Ah, that must be it. Perhaps the reason why she was dizzy was not because of her attraction towards Daehwi but because of the fever that attacked her suddenly. Perhaps - that was only a guess, but Areum knew she was only lying to herself.
She hated Daehwi for stealing her heart, and realizing how cheesy it sounded, she would never confess. Daehwi had a long train of girls after him, how would he able to notice Areum? She wasn't the assertive and straightforward type, she was always the quiet and obedient girl who often stayed out of trouble.
Who would like that type of girl?
"Ms. Kim?" Before she even knew it, Daehwi had dragged her all the way to the nurse office - by the hand!
Areum looked at their interlocked hands and felt her breath hitch. 'Shoot, shoot, shoot - this is bad', Areum thought as another feeling of vertigo hit her.
"Woah woah woah," Daehwi ran to her side and grabbed her before she almost crashed to the medicine cabinet. One of his arms went behind her back, snaking her waist securely while the other hand was holding her face up.
"Areum?!" Daehwi's eyes scanned all over Areum's face in concern, attempting to get any response from the said girl. But to his worry, Areum passed out in his arms - the last thing she saw in her blurred vision was his warm eyes staring back at her.
"Oh shit," Daehwi cursed as he shook her, calling her name out. He bit his lip anxiously before lifting the girl with ease - his arm went behind her knees while the other went behind her back.
Daehwi brought her to the ward where he laid her down on one of the beds. The school clinic was incredibly empty today, since normally it would be bustling with students.
Daehwi stared at her worriedly, before fixed the blanket on her to warm her up since she was trembling in her sleep.
He sat beside her on the bed, brushing her hair out of her face with a content smile. He had always wanted to see Areum this close; to talk to her, to hold her in his arms and to make her his.
But in Daehwi's eyes, Areum always seemed to ignore him, making him think that she actually hates him when the actual truth was the opposite.
Areum liked Daehwi, and he liked her too - but the two were both hesitant on moving forward. Daehwi thought, 'who would want to like a noisy and rowdy guy like me?' And his spirits immediately drained.
He wouldn't confess to her, not yet or perhaps never? As much as he liked Areum, he would rather have her stare at him in annoyance, rather in disgust.
Because as much as Daehwi wanted to hate her for stealing his heart, he could never ignore her.
