Chapter 5

I was still sitting in the big tree house when the tree shook. I saw a large hand reach up and pull itself up the trunk. My eyes widened. The hands were as big as my head and the person that owned them was even bigger. A giant head peeked over the edge of the platform. I slid myself into the leaves behind me, and watched as the Giant pulled himself onto the platform. He was at least 9 feet tall and very muscular. His clothes hung on him loosely and he had a giant hammer strapped to his back. The giant’s face was misshapen and scarred. I wondered how old he was.

“Hello?” the Giant said, “I am here to get Jamie! Zyon said to bring you! Now where is she?” The giant looked around and smiled as he saw me.

“Ah, there you are” he said. “I was wondering where you were. Come on out now come on.”

I wanted to go to the giant but my body was frozen in fear. How did this thing know my name? I had so many things running through my mind that I didn’t even see him pick up my wool clump.

Ever since I was little, I was fascinated with the wool that collected on the fence next to our house. I would pick it off and clean it carefully. Then somehow I would shape it to my emotions. I never knew how I shaped it, but always had it in my pocket and now it was shaped as a question mark.

The giant picked it up, and I nearly died. That was the only thing I had left from my childhood. My only memory. That monster was not going to tamper with it.

“Get away from that you bastard!” I grabbed the nearest weapon. The rock was too heavy for me to hold for very long, so I hoped he would put it down soon.

The giant gently set it down and backed off.

“Calm down miss, it’s just a toy.” He said as I walked forward, rock in hand, “I’m Gardaag of Martal. If you haven’t noticed I’m a giant. Zyon told me to bring you to a place a day’s journey from here. I swear on my life that you will not be harmed and will reach Zyon’s arms safely.”

The way he said that made me want to believe him. I slowly sat the rock down and grabbed my wool. I was so confused and hurt that I didn’t know what to think.

“Before we go, you must tell me where the hell we are, who is this 'Zyon' and how you expect me to trust you.” He sighed as I said that.

“You’d better sit down then this might take a while.” He sat down and studied me for a moment, “Come on sit down I won’t bite.”

I slowly sat down and listened carefully.

“The first thing you should know is you are an Elf.”
