I looked down at my engagement ring as I approached the big white house I knew so well. Then I looked at my fiancé, who was driving our old pickup truck. The car stopped, and Derek and I got out of it. He actually walked around the car and opened the door for me.
I knocked on the door. Then the door opened. It was Alex, my cousin, now a teenager. "Stephanie!" He yelled, hugging me. "Hey Alex!" I said. Aunt Becky ran down the stairs. "Alex, give Stephanie some room to get through the door!" She said. We actually got into the house, then Becky gave me a hug. "Is DJ here yet?" I asked. "No, not yet. She called about a half hour ago. They're on their way." She saw my hand. "Steph, is that what I think it is?" She asked. "Yes." I said. "Congratulations! I promise I won't tell your dad, assuming you want to tell him yourself?" She said. I nodded.
Then Dad, Jesse and Joey came down the stairs. "Dad!" I screamed, jumping into his arms. "Stephanie!" He said. Then I hugged Uncle Jesse and Joey. "Dad, Uncle Jesse, Joey, this is my boyfriend, Derek. My Dad shook hands with Derek. "How long have you been dating?" Dad asked. "Two years." He said. "Wow. It's a record for Steph." Dad laughed. "Dad, you should see the gift Derek gave me." I said. "What's that, sweetie?" He asked. I pulled my hand out of my pocket. "Oh My God. Stephanie." He said.
A little bit later
"Well, that went well." Derek said. "He can't tell me what to do anymore! I can marry you whether he's there or not." I said, pacing. "Right." He said, following me. "I love you!" I said, spinning around. "I love you too!" He said, and we kissed.
