Melody! Melody, wake up! I think someone's coming!" My eyes shot open. Tara was standing over me.
"What? Who?" My brain felt like it was still sleeping.
"I heard sticks snapping!"
"From where? Are you sure?" I said quickly.
SNAP. SNAP.
My body shot up in instinct.
"OK, now I believe you!" I said with terror. Did the cops decide to follow me? Or was someone else sent to get me? I grabbed they bag that held the money and hid it behind the tree I was sitting against. Tara mentioned they got into trouble in Kenna too - are they here for them? Just then I saw a figure. It was a tall boy. He had blackish brown hair and light pink lips. He was wearing a light blue sweatshirt covered in mud and rain. He didn't seem to notice us for a few seconds. Then, he saw me and slowed his walk. He looked at me, then at Tara, Asia, then settled his stare on me.
"Who are you?" he asked us. He was still looking at me. Should I give him my name? What if he was here for me? I decided I wasn't going to give him my real name. Tara spoke first.
"I'm Tara, and this is M..." I cut her off before she said my name.
"Mollie!" I quickly answered. Tara looked at me confused. I shot a pleading look for her not to tell him my name.
"Who are you?" Tara asked. He just stood there.
"I'm Tucker. Why are you sleeping in the woods? Actually, why are you in the woods!?" he asked and sounded a bit rude. He was looking at me like he recognized me from something.
"Is there a law saying that we can't be in the woods!?" I snapped at him. I hadn't realized that Asia had woken up but she was standing closely behind me.
"Sorry, didn't mean to be rude!"
I felt like I'd heard his voice before, but couldn't put my finger to where. And I could swear I'd seen his face before. I brushed those thoughts off, and stood up. His eyes never left me and I started to feel uncomfortable. It's like he read my thoughts because he looked away.
"So how long have you been living in the woods for?" he asked.
"Only for about four days now, right Mel..." I gave her a look with a warning.
"Mollie!?" Tara said, confused. I'll have to tell her her why I'm not telling him my real name later. I just nodded my head.
"O-kay!" He looked confuzzled.
"So why are you guys living in the woods?" he asked again.
"Got into some trouble," I mumbled, not sure how much to tell him.
"Well what kind of trouble?" he asked. Why was he so curious about us? What was he trying to find out?
"I'd rather not tell," I mumbled again. I've got to be careful about what I say around this guy. Asia walked over to Tara and sat on her lap, eying Tucker.
"Who are you?" Asia asked. Tucker looked at Asia with adoring eyes.
"Hi, my name is Tucker, what's your name?" Asia smiled and blushed. She seemed to like him, so, why can't I? He seemed to be a nice guy. But I don't know. Something about him I can't trust.
"My name is A-sia," she said in the cutest way possible! Tucker chuckled and looked back at me.
"So, why are you in the woods?" Tara asked. She seemed intrigued by Tucker.
"Oh, um. My house had been burnt down, nowhere else to go." He was staring at his ratty old shoes.
"Can you come with us, Tucker?" Tucker smiled at Asia, then looked at me.
"Where are you all going?" Tucker asked.
"We're going to Tanzer Town. If you want, I guess you could come," I offered to Tucker.
"Well, it sure beats going solo!"
