Mack's pov
"Party party party" Lucas chanted as we made our way out of school.
"The party doesn't start till six so I suggest you calm down" Peter said in a very depressed tone.
"What's got your panties in a twist?" I asked slightly worried at his change of attitude.
"He thinks he's going to have to repeat the year since he thinks he failed the math test." Josh air quoted.
"Don't be a wet blanket, one test isn't the end of the world" Lucas said trying to make him feel better.
"Okay" Peter sighed shaking his limbs like he was getting rid of all the bad vibes, "I'm good"
"My dad's here so I'll see all of you tonight" Lucas waved as he ran down to the school driveway.
"Well that's my ride" Josh pointed at a waving Taylor.
"You're really leaving in your girfriend's car. That must hurt your pride" Peter Joked.
"Trust me my pride is still intact" he winked and turned his attention to his girl.
"Eww keep it to yourself" Peter made a gag face while I laughed.
"I guess it's just you and me" He turned and looked at me, with a mischievous smile.
"Yeah I'm going home, every time I'm with you somehow my credit card gets it" I walked past him.
"Dude come on" He whined.
"No Pete, you should go home" I used my famous nickname which he hated.
"Go home or you're not invited to the party" I threatened him, giving him my best serious face.
"You couldn't keep me out even if you wanted to" he crossed his arms.
"Go home" I said as I walked away from him, once I got to my car I looked back and noticed he was gone. I unlocked my car but before I could get in I noticed Holden getting out of the school.
I contemplated whether to invite to the party, would he want to?
I jogged over to him, locking my car in the process.
"Hey" I greeted catching my breath.
"Someone's excited to see me, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit" He teased smiling.
"How are you?" I asked, my breathing back to normal.
"I'm good, you?" he replied.
"I'm fine, so I was wondering-" I started but he cut me off.
"If I was coming to your party tonight" he finished.
"Yeah" I sighed in relief since I hadn't properly thought of how I was going to ask him, I don't know why I was stressing over it, it's not like I was going to ask him on a date.
Okay . . .
I don't know why I just thought of that.
I'm not gay.
I don't know why I would come to that conclusion.
I'm not a homophobe either, as long as none of them fall in love with me then I'm cool.
That sounded bad.
I swear I'm not a homophone.
I love gay people.
They can fall in love with me all they want.
Okay that sounded worse and even more conceited.
I'm just going to stop.
"How'd you know?" I asked, erasing my thoughts.
"The whole school has been talking about it, plus Meela asked me to go with her , something about breaking me in into the town" he laughed, playing with his hair.
"Okay I guess I'll be seeing you tonight" I said slowly walking back to my car.
"You need a ride?" I turned around and asked him.
"It's fine, I brought my bicycle today, I got my own set of wheels" he laughed and waved goodbye, walking in the opposite direction.
"Cool, see you later then" I whispered the last part as I realized he was too far to hear me anyways, I sighed running a hand through my hair.
Why was I so awkward around him?
I got into into my car and sighed against the seat, right as I was about to start the car my phone started ringing, I picked up the phone.
"Hello" I said ,placing the device against my ear.
"Mackenzie, how are you darling"
I paused recognizing the voice.
"I'm good, how are you?" I asked falling back onto the seat.
"I'm good, today was a little hectic, your father was complaining since he found out his stunt double is a woman, he's literally starting to do all of his stunts by himself" she laughed.
I smile broke on my face "How is he, is he okay?" I asked, my grip on the steering wheel tightening.
"He's fine, a little grumpy but fine, how's school?"
"It's good," I replied simply not entirely sure how to answer.
"How's, umm ... what's his name? Luke.. Luk-"
"Lucas" I finished for her, slightly disappointed that she couldn't remember my best friend's name.
"Ah yes, I hope he's good, I have to go now but I'll call you soon, I love you baby" she cooed making a kissy noises at the end.
"I love you too mom, tell dad I love him" I said quickly.
"I will, I love you" she said and hung up.
I sighed running my hands through my short dark hair, I breathed in ,feeling the familiar wetness around my eyes, I blinked fast, no not here.
I wasn't going to have a breakdown alone inside my car at my school's parking lot. No thank you.
I started the car and drove out fast, my mind not really paying attention to how fast I was going, I was glad there weren't too many cars on the road. I shifted in my seat, trying to sniff away the tears.
I knew my parents cared about me but I also knew that it was hard for them to show it from such a distance, they did their best.
Was I selfish to think that it wasn't enough?
All the presents, gifts, all the luxury, it was great honestly, most people would die to have my life, even for a day but a life of feeling abandoned didn't feel like much of a life, but at least I had Nanna and Laurence.
They were my godparents. It was amazing how they both worked for my parents even before I was born. Nanna's real name's Beatrice but I haven't heard that name in a very long time. I've always wondered if she ever wanted to do something different with her life, if she had any kids, I asked her once and all she said was "this is the only life I've always known, I love this family, your family was very good to me" . I dropped the topic right then and there.
Laurence had a similar story too, he worked for my grandparents when he was a teenager, then he started working for my parents and now he's stuck with me.
I pulled up to my house, a feeling of relief washing over me for some reason. I got out of the car and watched all of the vans off loading decorations and all kinds of food.
Oh yeah.
I had a party to get ready for.
