Mack's povIt was Thursday and the morning seemed to pass by too slowly. I was never a morning person, it always felt like my mind hadn't processed that my sleep time was over.
I was currently sitting in my English class, the whole class was chaos, Lucas ,Peter and Josh were all laughing at something I hadn't quite understood, or I wasn't listening. I looked to the front of the class, Mr Hect wasn't in class, it was odd, that man never missed a day of school and personally he was one of my favorite teachers ,he loved what he taught which in turn made me love what I learned, I loved literature the most.
Holden was at the back of the class with a beaming Meela on his arm, she was probably talking about how awesome her weekend was.
My weekend wasn't so bad , the party was a success, well that's at least what people have been telling me. I had spent most of my Saturday with Holden, even though he told me that his mom would be worried he didn't seem to be in a rush to leave, anyways I was grateful for the company , most weekends I'd be alone, Nana doesn't count nor does Laurence, they had to be in my life, I still love them very much.
"Sorry I'm late class , but Mr Hect had family issues and couldn't be here today, so I'll be watching you for this period"
We all turned our heads as Mrs Celeste walked in ,out of all the substitutes we had to get her.
Hadn't we had enough of her for one day, having a double math in the morning was enough for me, even though all we did was get our tests back and mark the whole thing. I had done pretty well , as always.
"Mackenzie" She called from the front of the class. What did she want with me now?
I pushed my seat out and made my way to her table.
"What can I help you with mam?" I smiled at her.
"I wanted to ask you for a favor, you see you've always been the highest in my class and recently we got a new student, he's not even close to standard, could you maybe consider tutoring?" She asked, was she talking about Holden?
"You mean Holden?" I asked ,the fact that she called him below average didn't sit well with me.
"Yes, I'm not sure how it worked in his previous school, but looking at what he knows and doesn't know, it doesn't look very good, I ask you to consider it" she pleaded placing her glasses down.
I looked back at him and he was laughing with some guy I had never bothered to get to know. "Okay, I'll do it"
She seemed shocked at my answer, like she hasn't expected me to agree so fast.
"Thank you, I'll talk to Holden later in the day, I really appreciate this" she dismissed me from her table. She was probably told off by the principal about another failing student again.
I walked back to my table and Lucas nudged me.
"Hey what was that about?" He asked hinting at Mrs Celeste.
"Just math things" I replied, not wanting to mention anything about the tutoring, it wasn't set in stone yet. She hadn't even talked to Holden yet, did he have a choice in all of this?
I personally didn't mind tutoring, I'd done it before and it was a good use of my time.
Things with Holden were normal I guess. As normal as they could be, I still didn't know how to feel about the kiss. I was still sightly bothered by the fact that he forgot, I felt like shaking him by the collars and demanding for an explanation, but that was a little too dramatic.
"Mack?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked up to find Lucas looking at me,
"Yeah" I asked hoping I hadn't missed anything important.
