Mack's pov
I grabbed my bag off the floor and made my way out of class, I checked my phone and it was only a few minutes past four, photography never took that long to end but I wasn't complaining because some of the other guy's presentations were really interesting and it's not like I was in a rush to get home.
I walked to my locker to take my math book, tomorrow's math test wasn't something I was worried about but it never hurt anyone to do some studying,
"Hey, wait up" I heard a voice call.
I turned my head and found Holden running towards me.
"Hey" I greeted once he reached me, not knowing what to else to say.
"Why didn't you present your assignment thing, didn't you want to do it" He asked and by now we had both started a slow walk to the exit of the school.
"I did but that was before you came so you had just missed me" I explained.
"Oh, I guess that makes sense" he said before a really awkward silence.
"I was wondering" I started just to fill the silence "Why were you late? Honestly you looked like a mess" I chuckled the last part.
"Oh that" he played with his hair, "Afterschool I went to the gym to sign up for the swim team, the coach asked me to show him what I had since I came in the middle of the year and he already had a team, I wasn't prepared at all, I literally swam in my underwear, after that he said he'd tell me if I made it next week, and after that I kind of got lost looking for the photography class and I literally sat in there for three hours straight with wet underwear" he said really fast, not really taking any pauses to breath till the end.
"Wow" I said shocked since I had not expected him to be that honest and for his honestly to be so unbelievably true.
"You were only like ten minutes late to class" I added on, shaking my head in disbelief
"It felt longer" he shook his head with a look like he was reliving his crazy afternoon.
"Wait but your hair isn't wet" I pointed out
"Yeah the coach gave me a cap, but it felt like war trying to get all of it to fit in there without tying it first" He said, brushing his hair, emphasizing on how wild it was.
"I don't think I'd survive with so much hair" I said and by this point we had unintentionally made it to my car.
"I guess it's not for everyone, is this your car?" He asked staring at it.
"Yeah it's mine" I answered watching him slowly.
"This car is amazing!" He exclaimed and walked around the vehicle assessing it.
"Thanks" I awkwardly said as he continued like I wasn't even here.
"It's hot" he said nodding his head.
"I'm sorry?" I said, not quite sure I heard right.
"Red is hot, your car is red is it not?" He folded his arms and smiled at me .
"Yeah it is, thanks I guess" I laughed awkwardly before clearing my throat "How are you getting home?" I asked realising it was best I got home before I starved to death, how did I not notice I was hungry?
"I'm taking the bus" he answered.
"I can take you home" The words left my mouth even before I could stop them.
"Are you sure, it's really not a problem if I take the bus"
"I hope you're not rejecting me" I said smiling.
