Mack's povBeing part of the photography group was an honour for me, even though it didn't feel that way for most of the kids in the group, I honestly loved it.
Miss Leyn stood in front of the class, assigning different learners to events that were coming up this week.
School had ended over an hour ago and for some reason I was extremely tired, my eye lids were threatening to close shut when I heard my name.
I immediately looked up to find Miss Leyn writing my name on the board before turning around and looking at me. I was grateful that she hadn't seen me dozing off.
"Yes" I said, praying that she hadn't assigned me to something dreadful, I crossed my fingers hoping for something fun, the upcoming basketball game, the debate, the cheer meet, any one of those would be great.
"I'll be expecting you at Friday's spring dance "she said smiling at me. "You need to take pictures of the decorations, the dresses, all the couples, don't miss a thing, this is an important event"
An important event I was planning on missing.
"Of course , expect no less" I smiled right back at her.
I cursed at my luck, out of all the events I could've been assigned to it just had to be the spring dance.
Class was rather empty, today was one of those days were the kids who did more than one activity at school were busy, it would've been better to cancel today's meet. That's what I told Miss Leyn but she said that there are other kids who have nothing else to do so she would rather spend her time doing something productive with her afternoon.
She was still young, hadn't she heard of a gym or a spa? Not that she needed to work out. The amount of time she spent at the school was nothing more than remarkable.
Class ended really quickly and I made my way out of the room. I stopped by my locker to quickly grab a book.
"Mack!" I heard and turned around to find Lucas running over to me.
"You need a ride?" I asked as I watched him catch his breath.
"No, I - Coach actually asked me to talk to you" he said grabbing my attention.
"Coach?" I asked confused. "Talk to me about what?"
"I know you said you're done playing, but Mack we really need you, Dustin dislocated his shoulder and we don't have any more reserves-"
"You want me to play for you" I interrupted him.
"We wouldn't have asked if we had any other option. We're playing our last game of the league this Thursday" he pleaded.
I watched as he looked at me expectedly with those puppy dog eyes. I stopped playing basketball the previous year. Since then, I just stopped and never played again. It was a decision I had made on my own. Basketball was what my dad loved to do when he was younger and I was good at it also but I didn't love it as much as I should've, and I soon realized that just because my dad loved it didn't mean that we'd bond over it because he still never came to watch me.
Not even one game.
"Just one game" I repeated, more so for myself.
"One game and that's it" he replied quickly. His face brightened up because he knew I was going to do it
"Is that it cause I was kinda heading somewhere?" I asked glancing at the front door of the school where I was headed.
"You need to come with me" He said, like he had forgotten that bit.
