Adaline

Sunday came & went & before I knew it I was starting my job. It had been raining all week, not that I really minded but it looked a little gloomy. However, when it rains people tend to come in for coffee & hot cocoa. I got to start serving drinks right away considering my past experience at the coffee shop by where I used to live.

Where I used to live.

It's so weird to think that now I live with Harry. My new life begins with him, a new & better life. One with more promise & happiness. I didn't want to be reminded of my old life & all of the mistakes I happened to make along the way, & so far it was working. That was until she walked in.

Jessica.

Jessica & I used to be best friends back in high school. We would be up all night partying & didn't care about the repercussions of our hasty decisions. I was young & dumb. I was hoping she wouldn't notice me but you can only hope for so much.

She began to strut to the counter with her strawberry blonde locks following close behind her. "Hi I'd like a venti caramel mocha with no foam" She said all too politely. Considering my willingness to go unnoticed by her was at an all time high, I decided not to question it. I quickly made her her drink & slid the cup across the counter.

She began to walk away until she suddenly stopped. She slowly turned around & looked directly my way. "Wait a minute, I never gave you my name, yet you knew what it was." She was getting painfully close until she realized who I was.

"Oh my god Adaline, its you, I thought you were some crazy stalker." She laughed it off.

I decided not to be cocky or rude at the last minute. "Yeah, just me." I smiled.

"Well what are you doing all the way down here, don't you live up by our old high school?"

I neglected to answer her question after a good 20 seconds went by. "Well I um, moved up here not too long ago & decided to get a job close by." I technically wasn't lying. I did move in with Harry & he lived up here & I did get a job that was close by.

"Oh, well maybe we'll all have to have a little housewarming party." She smirked.

This was the last thing I wanted. Jessica hasn't grown out of her "i'm young & like to party" phase & I was not looking forward to digging up on old habits. There are more than enough reasons for me not to party & she was definitely one of them. When Jessica partied she went crazy. She would dance on tables, get in petty fights with strangers, steal liquor fro some poor kids parents cabinet when they were out of town. She was a nightmare.

Now she's here, at my work, anxiously waiting for a response. "Jess." I started. "I don't party anymore, & I don't talk to any of our old friends." I only said "friends" the way I did because they weren't actually our friends. We only ever hung out to party or get wasted & that was about it. Maybe an occasional ride somewhere every now & then but other than that, we were all practically strangers.

"You're not friends with Ashton anymore?" She asked surprised. It took all the strength in my body not to roll my eyes at her. "No I'm not. Jessica I don't party anymore. Sorry, but I have to get back to w-"

I was cut off by my manager. "Adaline, your boyfriend called. He'll pick you up from your shift at 8."

My eyes widened. I didn't want Jessica to know about Harry, not in the slightest. Not that I was embarrassed by him, in fact far from it. I just didn't want her to steal him from me. It wouldn't have been the first time she's taken something that wasn't hers.
