-Natalie's POV-
"The school isn't that big, so showing you around won't take all day." A free tour? I suppose this was normal for someone's first day.
Stiles kept rambling on about "regular" stuff, details I couldn't familiarize myself with. He kept tossing a look at me from over his shoulder, a slight grin, a gentle innocence was apparent in him. A spark in his golden eyes. I wasn't sure why I was able to distinguish it; he was just so full of life.
"And this is where a student took his last breath last year after a mountain lion attack." I shook my head, breaking from my inattentive trance.
"What?!" I was more concerned with the fact he stated a mountain lion than the kid's death...
"I knew you weren't paying attention. Thought I'd throw you for a loop." He chuckled, while I squinted my eyes in disdain. Mountain lions? Even if it was a joke, why would he be as specific as to say a mountain lion?
"Very funny." I sighed.
"You'll learn to accept my skewed sense of humor."
"Will I?" I replied, giggling to sound relaxed, but genuinely asking, at the same time. God, I suck at "making friends".
"Maybe?" He crinkled his eyebrows., walking into a classroom. I hesitantly followed. I was never the person to walk blindly into something; the possibility of a trap poisoning my mind. I had to convince myself I was in school. High school. Normality.
"Stilinski! You're late!" A gruff voice bellowed.
"Did you expect anything different, coach?" Stiles replied. He sure was sarcastic... Guess when you can't growl, you need some other intimidation method.
"One could always hope. But there's no hope for you, Stilinski. Sit dow- Who's this?" The entirety of the class met my gaze. The uncomfort I felt was unlike anything I'd experienced before.
"Her name is-"
"Let her introduce herself, Stilinski!" Stiles rolled his eyes, then turned to look at me. He nodded, giving me a small smile and retreating to his seat.
"Natalie Hale." My voice was almost a whisper, looking down at the glassy, tile floor. My surname was a like a curse, and I knew. I took a deep breath, looking back to my peers.
Stiles's mouth was agape, followed by a stare of pure disbelief by the boy sitting behind him.
I sauntered to an empty desk in the back of the classroom. God, normalcy is difficult.
-Scott's POV-
I watched as she crossed the classroom, clutching her backpack strap, analyzing her peers.
Natalie Hale. Hale? Derek had a sister? I drew in a breath, a mixture of various colognes and perfumes filled my nostrils, with a slight canine twinge. Definitely her.
I looked over at Stiles, whose expression accurately described my emotions. I kicked the back of his plastic seat.
"What?" He whispered, turning his head slightly.
"What were you doing walking around with Derek's sister?!" I yelled in a hushed tone.
"Do you not see my surprised face?! I didn't know she was a Hale!" He shot me a glare.
"McCall! Stilinski! Shut up!" Of course. I sighed, looking back at the girl in question, her eyes already glued to me. She gave me a smirk that reminded me of alcohol; inticing but bitter.
I responded with a confused look. Did she know that I was "friends" with Derek? If you could call us friends... Allies, maybe.
She bit her lip, innocently. She slightly shook her head, leaning back in her seat, slowly peeling her gaze away from me. I couldn't bring myself to let go of the view; maybe it was just paranoia, but something felt off about her. She just randomly enrolled to Beacon Hills High? And just happened to find Stiles in the hallway? Of all the students that meander the hallways in the morning, she was drawn to Stiles? That's too close to comfort to be considered a coincidence.
"Dude. I know she's hot but you're making it totally obvious that you're staring." Stiles raised his eyebrows at me, and glanced at Allison, who was sitting beside me.
Allison was scratching notes vigorously on a piece of paper. I watched her then desperately looked to Stiles, as he nodded.
Even after Allison broke up with me at the beginning of the summer, I knew feelings were still there, and maybe we could even rekindle what we had. But she just caught me staring at another girl... After class, I'll just explain to her how I wasn't looking at her in an adoring way but-
Ringgg. I shook my head, grabbing my backpack and glancing at Allison's desk. To my surprise, Allison was gone and Natalie was standing in her place. "Scott McCall?" She smirked that intoxicating grin. I felt Stiles walk up beind me.
I nodded. "Hale." A bit of malice in my tone.
She chuckled. "Don't sound so angry."
"It's not anger, it's defense." I responded, trying to keep my breaths even.
Just then, Isaac burst through the door, his dark curls mangled as he panted. I turned towards him. "Scott, we have a problem."
What now? I scowled, "What?"
"Twins. Twin alphas. And they don't seem fond of me. Of us." I knew it wasn't paranoia. I twisted around, to look back at Hale and she was gone.
I knew it. Something wasn't right here.
