Asher
A soft knock sounded on the other side of the door and I peeked a small glance to the corner of my desk where a clock rested. It was very early in the morning but Caleb and I were busy planning for the next couple of days. Violet laid on the couch with her eyes shut and her body rising steadily to her breathing.
I tiptoed to the door and cracked it open to see the two men, both carrying my children, with faces that seemed as if they have both seen something unforgettable.
I stood out of the way which allowed them to march into the room and place the sleeping children onto the other couch, opposite from Violet.
The couple then walked up to Caleb and I. I tried to stay patient but they wouldn't have gone through this much of a hassle if it wasn't something serious, like the expressions written on their faces. I grew concerned by the second and stared at Derek as he began speaking.
"I decided to take a walk, to see you," he paused then gestured towards Caleb, "then I was grabbed by the collar of my shirt and dragged all the way to the end of the hallway. I couldn't move and free myself but you wouldn't be able to guess who approached me." He glanced at me with daring eyes.
I sighed and shook my head. I already knew who it was. It was my older sister. She had come back behind these castle walls after so long from here. It had been years since I saw her face anywhere near home.
"It was Anabelle." I stated through my gritted teeth. Caleb was nodding beside me since he had already guessed so as well.
"Yes, and she threatened to take Cameron's life so that I could be by her side and suit her for however long I shall live." His expression turned to stone and I swallowed past the lump that grew in my throat.
I stole a glance to Cameron since he didn't anything and I couldn't read what exactly ran through his mind but Derek and Cameron were obviously having a conversation through telepathy. I sighed and shook my head at what the sister-I-had-once-known threatened to one of my guards.
She has done so much to inflict pain upon this kingdom and all this anger has affected us and put us into a tight tension that we were playing her game. We no longer has freedom to manipulate the game but rather fall down to her feet and kiss the ground wherever she walked.
Caleb remained silent throughout Derek's speaking but when I looked at him, his expressions were stern and his eyebrows were furrowed. He then looked up at me from the floor with a pair of worried green eyes.
"I don't feel safe leaving Jill and Hazel alone so I should retrieve them and have them stay with us in this room. At least we could stay together in a pack and fend for each other." He exclaimed and I nodded in understanding. If I had found out about Derek's incident then I would've taken off to have Zayden and Alexandria in my arms and bring them to sleep beside their mother.
"Then when you come back, we shall continue planning for our next move. She is watching us very closely. We do not know where she is at the moment so everyone should stay on high alert." I stated then glanced at Violet who turned in the couch to face me with her gray eyes wide open. She was puzzled but she caught on almost immediately when she peeked into my mind and captured my thoughts of what had happened for the past few minutes.
"What about my mother?" She asked after sitting straight in her chair. She asked right before Caleb had turned the doorknob and walked out the room.
"I'll make sure to pick her up on the way. We have to make sure that everybody stay safe within their own rooms and be aware of the dangers that might be roaming the hallways." Caleb said, then he looked at me without a blink of an eye. "I'll tell Aidan to come along as well, that way I won't be alone when I walk through." I nodded at his decision and groaned in frustration as soon as he closed the door behind him.
