~Grey's P.o.V~
"Dude, your last spike was awesome! I mean there were like 3 of them and they're all huge and you just blew the ball right through them!" Kyle said with matching hand gestures, his eyes gleaming as if he was a kid taken to Disneyland. He was always this hyped after every volleyball match he watches, even though we literally had to drag him out of his house every single time.
Caden just smiled at him, now out of his volleyball uniform, as we walk towards his car in the school parking lot.
"That was a nice game Caden, but you guys should really work on your backline offense. You could use a bit more versatility on your attacks." Alex commented, already tapping on his phone, playing whatever it is that he is currently addicted to.
"That's why I've asked you to be our manager, Alex. We need your awesomeness if we want to snatch that championship this year." Caden replied.
"As if you could get him off of his phone or laptop." Zeus butted in.
Caden just pouted at this, and the banters and bickering continue like it usually does when we're together.
"Oi Grey! You know if you keep silent like that and the others notice, they would shift the attention down to you." Alex whispered next to me, still engrossed with the game, which by the looks of it was Clash of Clans.
"Guys! My snakes need to be fed! Can we hustle a bit so we could eat." I said.
"Yeah, I'm beat and I could really use some food in me." Caden chimed in.
"Should we head to the diner your teammates are going to?" It was Zeus who asked.
Caden thought about it, but before he could answer, I butted in. "Of course we're heading there. The team did win their first match this season."
He looked at me, annoyed, but I just smiled at him. I know he doesn't want to be in a crowd right now, especially if he has us to hang out with, but his teammates deserve to have their captain's presence.
So yeah, as we are getting in the car and making our way to wherever, I think it's time I introduce ourselves.
First up, Caden Fritz, captain of our school's Volleyball and Swim teams, the athlete of our group. The guy is absolutely popular in the sense that everyone respects him, even the teachers, because of his athleticism and his study ethic. He never got a grade lower than 90 in any test, and his grades are outstanding, maybe except history in which I am helping him with. He can play in any sports and pass, if not with flying colors. He's extremely popular with the girls but only ever had 2, and might I add both very sad, girlfriends.
Shawn Kyle Stanson, the nerdiest of us all, although we all are. He's shy, he stutters during the times he needed to speak in front of a crowd, but he is the smartest guy in our group. He says he's socially awkward, but when he gets comfortable with you, you can never stop him from talking. Being the bookworm that he is, he usually just stays home and reads if he's not hanging out with us. Kyle is also a big Otaku, and is currently addicted to a manga/ anime that involves volleyball, hence, his enthusiasm with Caden's game today.
Speaking of which, he's still raving on an and on about the game, comparing Caden with a guy named Daichi, surely from that anime I was talking about, until Alex plugged an earphone to Kyle's ear. He shut up and started bobbing his head all through our ride. Thank God Alex always has his phone handy or I'd die listening to Kyle's spoilers. I mean, come on! I haven't even finished Kuroko's Basketball yet and he's already ranting about the anime he knows I'm gonna be watching next! That's just unfair. But anyways, where was I?
Alexander Reese, our strategist and game expert. He perhaps is second to Kyle when it comes to intelligence, if he actually tried to be serious with his studies. Don't get me wrong, he never fails. But he doesn't study either. Even during our group's study sessions, he would just tap on the screen of his phone like there's no tomorrow. He was also respected by the athletes at school because, although he may not be a physical athlete, his gaming skills are ridiculously good, and he creamed every guy that challenged him in any type of computer or strategy game.
"You guys are awfully quiet back there- oh. Never mind." Zeus said, but smirked as soon as he saw Kyle and Alex bobbing their heads to whatever song was playing.
Zeus Alastair is the machine geek. He's crafty, and skilled with codes and stuff, a hacker of sorts. His parents are big shot lawyers, and they support, encourage him even, with his robotics projects. He's an aspiring inventor, though he is pretty impatient. And although Caden might be Mr. Popular, Zeus is our student council president, because of his nice but strict attitude.
"Grey, do we really have to go there? I'm tired, and I just want to chill with you guys so why don't we just head to my house and see what mom has for us?" Caden said while looking at the rear view mirror. He was pouting and giving me the puppy eyes.
"You and your teammates should be celebrating together, Caden. Besides, the guys have been bugging me to get all of us there."
Caden pouted even more, his eyes focused on the road ahead.
"Wait, back up a little. What did you mean the guys have been bugging you?" Zeus asked, skeptically.
I just smiled at him, knowing he'll realize what I meant.
And then there's me, Greyson Aurorus Paige. I don't have any area of expertise, unlike the others, but I'm pretty capable of passing any subject. Alex even termed me a generalist, or in the rpg world, one with no apparent weaknesses, but no apparent strength as well. I mean, obviously I'm not athletic as Caden, but I can do sports. I'm not as smart as Kyle, but I manage pretty well with him during exams and contests. I'm not insanely strong when it comes to gaming but Alex says my skills are commendable. And I sure as heck not as crafty Zeus, but when he needs help, if he ever needs it anyway, I help in his coding problems.
So yeah, basically I'm your average guy amongst the 5.
I guess the next questions is how did we meet, right? Well, we just kinda did. There was nothing much really to tell since it was just a regular day at the library and we were just at the same place at the same time. I mean, we didn't know each other personally that day, and we were all seated at the same table.
I noticed Kyle glancing at me every now and then, so I decided to ask him if he needed anything. Turns out, he wanted to read one of the books I got, which was the only copy in the library. And from there, everyone started up a conversation.
It was that random. We just realized we kept hanging out with each other one time when Kyle brought it up, being the shy guy that he was.
"Earth to Grey. We're here, and I'm hungry so you should get your fat ass out of my car so we can get some food." Caden said, snapping me out of my daze.
The guys were already out and waiting for me.
"Oi Grey! Send me a Golem ASAP. And ready your troops already. The war's about to start." Said Alex.
"The damned war can wait! I'm starving!" Zeus whined.
"If I didn't know you better, I'd say you just want to see Greg." Kyle teased.
Zeus opened his mouth to retort, when what Kyle's words registered, his eyes wide as saucers drifting to me.
I smirked, opened the door and ran my way into the diner, while Zeus yelled at me from behind and the others chuckling at him for his lack of common sense at times like these.
And with that I entered the establishment, my closest friends trailing behind me with their teasing and bantering.
And sometimes, you just needed moments like these, a breather, a quick escape from this thing we call life.
