The End

I knew I couldn't keep running any longer as I swerved around an endless number of trees. I stopped to clutch my side which had started to develop a stitch. I heard a crunch of twigs coming close behind me. I couldn't stop now. Not after all that had happened. I wheezed. I was running out of oxygen. Snapping my heard around, I realised he was not far behind. How long now until he caught up with me now? A minute? A couple seco... My train of thought was interrupted when I felt a throbbing pain in my ankle. I had not been paying attention and had tripped over a tree root and thudded to the ground, twisting my ankle in the process. Salty tears came pouring down my face. How could I have been so careless? I tried to lift myself off the ground but it was useless. My ankle was stopping me. I knew he was going to be somewhere close by now. After all, I had spent more than a minute trying to get up. Leaves rustled behind me. I poked my head around the tree, daring to look. My heart beat quickened and my breathing stopped. He was just a few feet away but  fortunately for me he had not seen me yet. The tree was blocking his view. I whipped back round and tried to devise a plan.
If I could somehow get up, I could limp my way over to the denser bit of the forest and  would have a better chance of survival. That way I could hide from him and rest my ankle at the same time. But I would have to be careful. I didn't know why he wanted me but I knew this much, if he found me he would kill me.
Taking many deep breaths in I rested my elbow on the side of the tree and slowly got up. The pain in my ankle was unbelievable and I had to steady myself as I swayed. I took one step, then another and soon I was carefully making my way around him. I grimaced with each step I took but tried to ignore it. It's all in your head. I told myself, all in your head. But it's pretty hard to believe that when, your being chased by a psycho lunatic who wants you dead for who-knows-what-reason in the middle of nowhere on your birthday with a busted ankle. Yes, I know I have one messed up life.
I silently prayed that with each step I took I didn't alert him to my whereabouts by making too much noise. For a few minutes it worked but I soon realised luck wasn't on my side when I stepped on a twig. I looked behind me. He had shot around the second he heard me and was now coming full speed ahead. Right at me! I ditched my plan right away and bolted. My surroundings were a blur as I ran.
Why is this happening to me?! Once again, I was distracted by my thought and before I knew it,  I was going down. My hands were in the air as I stumbled and shrieked. I realised I had tripped over on a stone and just as I came down, my head cracked against a nearby tree. Where were the police when you needed them? Was my last thought as my surroundings went fuzzy and then finally I blacked out...
