I sneaked into the kitchen, longing for something to eat. It's not really my fault that I'm hungry all the time.
Even though I lost my sight, I could still remember my way to the kitchen. Old habits don't die, I guess.
I searched for the light switch then turned the light on.
"Lena, why are you still up?"
I jumped in surprise and almost lost my balance. I steadied myself then focused on the person talking. It's my stepmother.
After mom died with cancer when I was 12, dad became distant and desperate (for 3 years). I coudn't remember the last time he smiled. Two years ago, he met Stella ( a.k.a stepmom) and he felt "happy" or so he said so they got married. Of course I told him that he has my approval. I couldn't steal away his happiness after all these lonely years.
Their marriage lasted one year and then the next day he was gone. It should have been me but I guess fate has another plan for me....
I shook myself from the horrible memories and focused on my stepmom.
"I was hungry", I said simply.
"You should rest. Next time, ask one of the servants to bring you something".
"Why? because I am blind and can't find my way?" I answered with ice dripping with every word.
"No, I didn't mean to --
"No need to explain."
"Honey, I know you don't like me but--
"I don't like you". there, I said it.
I can feel the tendion growing between us so I just left. I know she's good and she made my father happy even for a little while but I needed someone to blame for the unfair twist in my life. And she's here.
It should have been me, buried in the cold dirt. I guess fate had another plan. (Sigh).
I focused on my steps, trying hard to recall my way back.

I wanted to change the plot a bit since I didn't like the beginning.
I hope you like it.
