Lost Girl

I met her about three weeks ago and ever since then we hand out on the weekends and on weekdays I walk her to school. Even the I've known her for a while now, she is still so mysterious. I've gotten her to say some wards to me but for some reason she always stays her distance.

"Zane! Breakfast!" I heard my mom call. I went down stairs to the table where my mom, dad, and stupid brother all sat. "Hey honey, are you going to meet up with that girl again later?" My mom asked.

"Yeah I have to be there in about a hour." I replied as I stacked my plate full of waffles.

"I would love to meet this girlfriend of yours, wouldn't you Rob?" she looked over at my dad, who was looking at the newspaper. I didn't even think people made newspapers anymore. He just nodded and continued scanning the paper. "Anyways, she should bring her over some time."

"Well, I would but she's not my girlfriend and I don't think she'll want to she's very shy."

"I'm sure she'll be fine. Pretty please."

"I'll ask her." there is now way I'm bringing her here, if Connor ever finds out I'm hanging out with the girl he's been trying years to hang out with, then I'm doomed. "Oh would you look at the time, I gotta go. See you guys later bye." I put on my shoes and grabbed my wallet, when I was out the door I felt relieved to be out of the house. I don't know why but I always feel weird there, I feel like Connor knows I'm hanging out with Sapphire and he's planning something. As I walked I thought how weird it was she had stopped liking people, from what I heard one day she just stopped talking to everyone and kept her distance. Well I feel very special that she chose to hang out with me, I am pretty awesome but still. Today I'll finally figure out what happened that day.

When I got to her house I knocked on the door expecting Any to open it, but instead man in his mid-forties opened up.

"Hello how may I-. Oh it's you." then the man slammed the door. Okay that must be here dad, I've only seen a brief second of him before. As I stood outside, I heard Sapphire ask who was at the door and her father reply by saying there was no one there. I heard her get mad at him then the door finally opened. Sapphire came out.

"Sorry, he's insane." she said in her quiet voice. Her eyes were so pretty a mixture of dark blue and grey, and her blondish brown hair, almost my color just a little lighter, was flowing in the wind.

"Wow, I think that's the most you've said at one time before, bravo!" after she glared at me, we started for the park. I would talk to her and try to make her laugh and talk back. We almost got to our normal sitting tree but Sapphire tripped over a tree root.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" I ran over to her but before I got to help her up.

"Stop! Don't touch me!" I stopped not only cause she told me to but she yelled at me, she actually yelled, what happened to her in the past?

"Hey are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, sorry I yelled please don't touch me." she got up and walked over to our tree. She looked frightened like she just saw the scariest thing in the world and she couldn't run from it.

"Hey, does you not wanting me to touch you have something to with your past?" Sapphire didn't answer or show her face. "Hey, look at me I want to help you." still no answer. I reached out to touch her shoulder but she got up before I got the chance. When I saw her face there were tears running down her face. "Hey Sapphire, I'm sorry I didn't mean-"

"No it's not your fault," she wiped the tears off her face. "I'll be right back." she started running towards the bathrooms. I ran down the hill after her, I waited outside the door leaned against the cement wall. What did I do, I never meant for her to cry. I want to help her I wonder why she wouldn't let me help her up or why she keeps her distance. Maybe she really doesn't like me or she's scared of me or she's scared to get close to me cause of my brother. As if on cue, there he was, my brother leaning against the end of the wall.

"Well, so you're her body guard now." Conner said playing with is finger nails.

"What do you want!" he figured it out, damn it! "Why are you so obsessed with her?"

"Okay I'll tell you but first let's make sure you won't escape." Two guys jumped over the wall behind Zane. They grabbed both of his arms and pinned him against the wall. "Perfect, now let me tell you. About tree years ago Julie, Sapphire, and I were best friends and I mean best friends. We did everything together but of course the girls got into a big fight and when Julie was walking away Sapphire grabbed her arm at the same moment she passed out from over heat. Julie had to go to hospital for about two months, no one had ever seen anything so bad before. Meanwhile Sapphire blamed herself for Julie's sickness, so she cut herself out of the world she stopped talking to everyone including me. I've tried so hard to get her back she was the only thing that mattered to me, heck I even became a gang leader hoping I could scare her into talking to me."

"This sounds like a classic drama and you're the psycho path that's bound to lose everything." the two men holding me hit me against the wall and one of them told me to shut up.

"And then you come along and suddenly become her Prince Charming and everything is fine with the world." Connor reached in his pocket. Zane couldn't believe what he pulled out.

"So you're planning to shoot me." Connor stood there pointing a gun at Zane.

"Yes, and I already know I'm going to go to prison but I life without you is the greatest life a person could ask for." He was about to pull the trigger when she ran out.

"Stop! Don't hurt him!" Sapphire ran out of the bathroom and stood in front of Zane.

"After all these years this is all it took to get you to talk to me? Well now I just feel like an idiot!"

"Please, I'm sorry I didn't talk to you. I never meant to hurt you I just wanted to keep you safe. I didn't want you to end up like Julie." Connor started laughing.

"You still believe you sent her to the hospital? Wow aren't you just the biggest idiot of then all!" he raised his gun again. "I don't know why I ever loved you, I guess you'll both have to go."

"Damn it! Connor we were 13, I was stupid your right I should have talked to you I'm sorry, please stop."

"It's to late for a sorry." Connor pulled the trigger. But before the bullet came out, the gun completely froze over along with the hand holding it. Connor screamed in agony and ran away, then the two men holding Zane started screaming as well. Their faces turned bright red and they started sweating. They ran off after Connor. Sapphire turned around and smiled at Zane.

"I'm g-glad y-you're okay." she said then started to fall.
