Chapter 9

Vast silence reigned over the land. Everyone was frozen. Not a sound was heard. Lifeless. Thoughts froze and utterance benumbed. The silence was overwhelming. Silence is known as peace but this was nothing of the sort.

War was on its way.

"East hyung –" Tao's voice trailed off.

"My, my. I see all 12 of you are so gullible. Especially you, Kai-sama, you are the worst. Why is it that being friends of the past means we're still friends after all this time? You've let so many people be killed in front of your eyes and all you ever do is run. I've decided to side with Essem to guarantee victory." East said, lifting his chin to show authority. This was the real East. He wore deep black jeans that hugged him tightly showing his beautiful figure. A black button down with clear buttons was tucked into his pants. Everything was perfectly ironed – not a single wrinkle was seen. A silver tie hung around his neck and swayed as he talked. His hair was combed back into a high and tight ponytail. Silver stringed earrings hung gracefully to the end of his chin.

I looked around and everyone's hair was changing. Blue lights glowed everywhere, but Kyungsoo was staring right at me. Tears were forming in his eyes.

"East, you said I'd be shocked." I said.

"Remember what I told you." East said, drawing his sword. His clones started appear all around Essem and us. Soon it was a circle of Easts surrounding us.

"Let's make a deal." Essem spoke, "if I win then you give me the stones and will come back to Kingdom of EXO and every generation will work under Essem without exceptions. If you win you can have the stones and the Kingdom of EXO will be abolished. The citizens will be let out into the world."

"Deal." I said quickly right after Essem finished. "None of us have seen the true power of all of the souls gathered together. Today we're changing history." I threw the bag in the air and the circle of East's ghost drew their swords, making a storm of clinks. To everyone's amazement, the stones floated around the circle in no pattern.

"That one's mine!" Chanyeol pointed at the stone with a blue phoenix glow. When he put his hand back down the stone shot straight at him hitting him on his upper arm at his tattoo. His hair flew up and turned light brown. "Ow! Was that supposed to happen?" Chanyeol said rubbing his arm where the stone had hit him. He looked at his upper arm and his eyes widened.

"My tattoo!! It disappeared!" Chanyeol exclaimed and spun around to face Baekhyun.

"No, it's not gone..." Baekhyun pointed above his head. "It's above you."

Above Chanyeol's head was a miniature blue phoenix that glowed and wisped in the air leaving a thin trail of blue behind it. The phoenix circled his head. Baekhyun pointed at his stone and put his hand down, similarly to Chanyeol. The stone came flying towards him to his palm and Baekhyun's hair puffed up, turned purple, and flattened again. His tattoo symbol, which looked like a compass, started rotating around his head.

"Whoa –" Chanyeol gasped. The floating phoenix went straight into his upper arm and the tattoo returned. The stone appeared again. It was bouncing and floating over Chanyeol's head. Fire started in his palm and small flames shot around him.

"Ahh~ that hurt~" Baekhyun screamed as the blue wisp went into his palm. The stone circled his head. Baekhyun held his hand out and light shot upwards. Chanyeol looked over at Baekhyun and held his hand out forcing the fire to shoot upwards similarly to Baekhyun's.

"I want to try." Sehun said motioning his stone to come to him. It hit his collar bone causing Sehun to back up into Luhan and flinch. The stone floated over his head and wind started circling around the clones of East. The rest of the souls started doing the same. Fire, water, earth, and winder were circling around the clones now. Lightning flashed around us and snow was falling within the circle. Light was shooting in every direction. Kris was flying around the circle screaming, "This is my style!"

I was admiring the beautiful scenery when suddenly I felt a cold hand on my shoulder. "Call the creatures." I hear East's voice. He was on our side.

"Kris, Chanyeol, call the phoenix and the dragon." I shouted over the sound of the wind. I saw a nod from both of them and looked at Luhan, Yixing and Tao. The four of us didn't have material powers.

"Is there anything we can do?" Luhan asked. I smiled and spoke, "If you want to play a prank on Essem before he strikes why you don't try moving people instead of objects." Luhan nodded and smiled. Essem's guards started floating around and screaming. When I looked back no one was standing there. Tao had gone onto Kris's dragon and was playing around on battle grounds. Yixing has disappeared.

"Guys! Where's Yixing?" I yelled. Everything stopped. The earth fell back to the ground. A river was surrounding us. The snow had stopped and lighting ceased. Everything was dark.

Essem started laughing a deep low laugh, "you guys don't know how to use your powers and you come to wage war...that's hilarious."

"Sir, don't underestimate the souls." East said.

Essem stopped laughing and his eyes widened. Yixing was riding a white unicorn with the guardians behind us.

"Long time no see East." South, North, and West spoke in sync.

"Long time indeed." East replied.

"Well then. Let us start." Essem said and the earth started shaking and random blocks of earth ascended into the sky. Essem was standing on a block of earth that ascended to the sky. I looked over to Kyungsoo. It wasn't his doing. Essem had really started the war.

Kyungsoo copied Essem and went into the air, shooting smaller sharper blocks of earth towards Essem.

"Don't forget. I have all of your powers combined." Essem spoke.

Everyone started shooting darts of nature at Essem. Ice shards were everywhere now. Water and fire collided and steam was flowing everywhere. Yixing was using his powers to regulate everyone's temperatures. The unicorn was dropping dust everywhere he headed. I stood in amazement. I could do nothing but run.

Suddenly I felt a hand touch my shoulder. It was Tao's. He pointed up into the sky above the clouded war. Blue symbols were rotating clockwise around a strange hexagon. Tao let his stone go and it went straight into the spiraling symbols.

"Where's yours?" Tao asked.

"I don't know. I never get tired. The stone is supposed to be our battery." I said.

"Turn around." I heard East's voice. Tao turned around in shock and stood in a front stand ready to use his martial arts.

"It's okay Tao. He's on our side." I sad putting my arm in front of him.

Behind East was the three other guardians. East was now wearing a uniform all black. North was wearing a white v-neck and jeans. South was wearing a silver and white uniform similar to East. West stood there in his club uniform and smiled.

"We figured out where your stone is." West said.

"It's probably inside you." South added.

"That's the reason you never need more energy. You also are immortal." North said, "features that are very similar to the gate guardians."

"Let the four of us stand in the center of the battle field and see what happens to the spiraling symbols." East said.

Tao had already disappeared into the battlefield, and was fist-fighting Essem.

The guardians walked passed me and my clothes changed into a bright white tuxedo.

"Let's go." The guardians spoke and we vanished.
