Seeing Leon's smile was the last thing I remember. I must've fallen asleep shortly after that, then. I woke up groggily and checked my phone. I saw a bunch of texts from Ash saying things like, "Are you asleep yet? Must be. Sweet dreams. I love you." I looked at the top of my screen and noticed that it was 6:30am. I replied back, "Sorry, Ash! I fell asleep super early last night. I love you too." I got up out of bed and took a shower. By the time I got downstairs, it was about 7:20. Serena and I got to school a bit early, like usual. When I first walked in, I saw Ash. I walked to him with a big smile on my face and hugged him tightly. He hugged me back with a smile.
"Hey there, sleepyhead."
I giggled. "Hey! You wanted me to get extra sleep!"
"Well yeah, but I didn't expect you to fall asleep that early!"
We both giggled and then Ash broke the second of silence afterwards.
"Hey, would you like to do something after school today?"
"Ugh! I wish I could but I have to do something today after school."
"What do you have to do? Maybe I can help."
"Oh, well I have to do a history report with Leon. We somehow got stuck as partners. How about we do something tomorrow?"
He smiled, too. "That's alright. Tomorrow it is."
--------------
The school day came to an end and I was not excited to go spend time with Leon. One, he annoys the crap out of me and two, I hate lying to Ash. As I was at my locker, I had a pit in the bottom of my stomach. Was I nervous? Guilty? Both? The sound of my thoughts were broken when I heard Ash's voice.
"Are you ready to tackle that history report?"
"Oh yeah, definitely." I said with an eye-roll. "I'd much rather be spending time with you."
"Well, at least tomorrow we get to spend time together. Speaking of, do you have any preference on what we do?"
"None whatsoever." I smiled.
"Alright then. It'll be a surprise." He smiled as well.
We hugged and he walked down the hallway, towards the doors. He said over his shoulder, "I'll text you!", just like he does every day. I smiled again. My smile faded away when I heard Leon's voice.
"Are you ready to be proven wrong?" I glared at him. "You don't look very excited."
"I'm not excited, thanks for noticing."
He laughed. "Well that just makes it all the more fun for me!" I glared at him again. "Alright, crabby. Let's get going."
We walked to his car and he drove out of the school's parking lot. There was an awkward silence for the first few minutes of the car ride. Leon was the first to break it. "So, how come I never see you driving? Do you know how?"
"Of course I know how, I'm eighteen!"
"Well if you know how to drive then why don't you?"
"I don't like driving."
"Why not?"
"Reasons that you couldn't possibly understand."
"Hey, I may be a jerk a lot of the time but I'm pretty understanding. I do have feelings, you know." I stared at him for a few seconds. "What? I being serious!"
"Alright. My parents died in a car crash. I don't like to drive not because I'm scared it'll happen to me, but because driving reminds me of them."
