I looked at him,clenching on my seat,trying really hard not to slap that pretty face of his.
"You are not serious."I say holding back all the curses I am currently thinking;
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!
YOU'LL GET US KILLED!
ASSHOLE!
IDIOT!
"Dead serious."He answers not even turning to look at me.He looks completely calm.
"We can't go west!They will be everywhere!I told you how much this means to me and now you basically delivering me to them?!"I shout at him and he stops the car making me hold onto my seat in order not to fall.I expect him to yell at me,to shout back or make up an excuse but nothing happens as he turns calmly towards me,but with a hint of irritation in his voice.
"They won't expect us to go west.They won't look for us in their grounds.The army is focused mostly elsewhere.I know what I'm doing Hayley.I wont let you get hurt.I just need you to trust me on this."
I run my hand through my hair and sit back sighing.
"Fine.."I shake my head crossing my hands on my chest,looking outside the window.I can literally never say no to this guy.He'll always have an excuse,and a good one that just magically makes me believe him and it's gonna be the death of me.
Suddenly I hear the back window of the car shatter from a gunshot and I dug covering my head with my hands.I spin around and see a black car coming our way,and I start breathing heavily.Elias steps on the gas almost sending me flying out the car but that is the least of our problems.
"What the hell?!"I ask and he pinches his nose worryingly."What do we do now?"
"Hayley get the wheel."He orders and I look at him confused.
"How the fuck am I suppose to do that?"I ask and he takes a second.
"Sit on my lap."He says and and I blink hard but I know I don't have time to play the modest lady.I breath out and move to his direction careful not to get hit by one of the bullets flying our way.
I first put my one leg where his are, but as I cross the space between our seats another shot comes at me breaking the front glass now and a scream escapes my lips.He shouts at me to hurry and I quickly sit on his lap as I feel his hands on my waist.
"You got it?"He asks and I nodd before he slides off from underneath me and sit on the passenger's seat quickly putting his hand underneath the seat and taking out a shotgun.That was there the whole time?!
Half of him gets out the window and starts shooting at the black car behind us.
"Are you crazy?"I shout at him but he just yells at me to keep driving,so that's what I do.
I speed up even more,careful not to accidentally throw him out the window.He starts to repeatedly shoot at them,bullets flying as far as they can,and I can see from the rearview mirror the driver falling on the passenger lifeless.The one remaining guy looses control of the car,sending him directly on a wall as it finally stops pursuing us and I let out a breath I didn't even realise I was holding in.Elias comes back in breathing heavily,glancing many times behind us to make sure no one else is coming for us.
"Are you okay?"I ask him and he breaths out a simple 'yeah'."We're gonna need a better car."I laugh out and he laughs too.
Night falls,and I decide to pull the car over so we can rest a bit.Elias gets out and takes some tree branches from the ground,gathering them all to one place,and flaming them with a lighter.
"I didn't know you smoked."
"I don't.It's Jo's car remember?"He reminds me and I open my mouth to say something then close it again when I realise he's right.
I sit in front of the fire,looking straight through it.Now that my mind is blank,all the adrenaline is gone and I have nothing to distract me from my own thoughts,all the things I've done in the past days creep up on me and I close my eyes.I rub my temples with two fingers,feeling my heartbeat picking up speed.
"What's bothering your mind Einstein?"I sense Elias sit next to me and I open me eyes.
"Why did you send me away?"I ask quietly and he sighs.
"What?"He asks with a drop of confusion in his voice.
"When I got shot.That wasn't the reason you sent me away.I could still shoot."
"You weren't ready to kill anyone yet Hayley.I didn't want to force you to do so.But,I was too late.I'm sorry."
"There is no way you could have done something."I wisper at the bad memory of my first kill and shiver slightly.
"You cold?"He asks and comes closer to me searching my body for signs of cold,like it would scream at him that I need a blanket or something.
"No."I shake my head and I lean on his shoulder.I feel him tense but I'm too tired to pull away.I need this right now.Just a small hint of human touch,that someone actually cares what the fuck happens to me next.And I may not know what his intentions and whether he does care or not,I don't really care now.I can think about that tomorrow.
He relaxes and I feel his hand at the small of my back,travelling to my side,resting there.I don't even fight the erge to sleep as my eyelids feel heavy,but before I sleep,I wisper two simple words at him.
"Thank you."
I flicker my eyes open and look around,finding myself back in the car.I yawn and rubb my eyes opening the door,exiting the car.
"Elias?"I shout when I don't see him.I look around when I start panicking."Elias?"I shout louder and I look at the back seats of the car in case I didn't see him sleeping,but he is not there.
No..no..he couldn't just leave me like that.He wouldn't.
I spend an hour waiting for him to come back,talking to myself studying the maps,even standing under the hot sun just staring in front of me waiting to see him pop out from somewhere.But he doesn't.
I run my hand through my hair,grabbing them where my crown is,before I let it fall on my side.That's it.He left.
I hear a motorcycle engine sound and I spin around so fast I think I might fall.My heart skips a beat when I see that it's the person I hoped it would be.He stops a few metres away frome and he looks at me as he gets off.
"Hayley are you-" says but I slap him and he turns at me with wide eyes.
"I thought you left me!"I shout angrily at him and my chest goes up and down frantically.
"Can you calm down!We needed something faster so I got us something faster!Did you really think I would just leave?I promised I will take you somewhere and I will."He opens his arms in surrender and I sigh as I pull him to a hug."You are so weird sometimes.."He shakes his head in disbelief and honestly,I couldn't agree more.I am weird sometimes.
But only with him.
