The Jewelery

I blushed bright red before looking up at him, completely and utterly stunned.

"I-I'm so sorry, I did that to my little brother all of the time and I-" I cut him off with a quick peck on the cheek.

"It's okay, I did it to all of my younger siblings too," I smiled brightly, welcoming the new companionship. It awakened part of me that had been dormant for so long.

"Well, do you want to get to work or not then?" he asked, a similar smile spreading over his own face. I nodded.

"Sure! What should we start with?" I asked him, gesturing to the shelves.

"How about you pick? It is your room," he smiled. I looked up on top of my dresser, picking the first thing I saw.

"This might be a bit boring for you, but how about the jewelry?" I asked, motioning towards a of the rack of bracelets and necklaces.

"That's fine with me!" he said, walking over to the dresser and pulling the rack down.

"Thanks," I smiled before pulling the first bracelet off.

The first one was a bracelet with seven or eight rows of rhinestones that were all connected. My grandma had bought them as a birthday present for me. I put it in the keep pile. Many more bracelets followed it, including a collection of simple silver bracelets that my aunt had given to me for Christmas, along with two red and green bracelets that my friend, Buddy, had given me for Valentine's Day and a pearl one my mother had given me.

What did not make the cut? Those bracelets made out of fake metal that always turned my wrists green and had the corny little sayings on it. Also, a few gold bangles that I had been given me almost ten years before that broke and cut your wrist whenever you tried to put one on.

Then, we moved on to necklaces. I had thousands of cheap ones from little birthday presents from friends and then ones that came alone with some of the outfits I would buy while on a shopping spree with my cousins. There was a gold winky emoji one, a bronze dream catcher, a black butterfly, one with a bunch of gold chains all connected to each other, a gold tear drop, and two with a bunch of shapes and tassels on them. They all went straight to the sell pile.

However, there was plenty of memorable ones to keep. One was a beautiful angel that had rhinestones on it that I had gotten from my grandparents for Christmas a few years ago.

Another one was a Pan Flute that one of my friends, Christy, had given to me on my birthday five years ago, during my obsession with all things Peter Pan and Robbie Kay.

Then, there was one with an assortment of fake diamonds on it that I bought in a small jewelry boutique with my cousin in Montana one year during our annual family vacation.

There was also a pearl necklace that my mom had let me borrow for a concert once but I never gave back.

I kept my one and only choker as well; a burgundy one with little tassels hanging from it. My cousin had picked it out for me over a week ago, saying that it matched well with some of my Harry Potter shirts.

There was also one that had a monster's eye hanging from it, with blue and purple filling where the white should have been. I got that from a Medievil Times with my Girl Scout troop many years ago.

I also kept the one third of a heart with the word "Best" on it that I shared with Buddy and Christy. I had the top left half while Christy had the bottom and Buddy had the top right half. Christy had bought the necklace as a present to us on Valentine's Day, and we had worn them ever since.

Lastly, there was an emerald necklace that I had received from Peter. an old boyfriend of mine a while back. I wore that necklace everywhere and to every thing. If we had to dress fancy, rest assured I would wear that necklace. Even after we broke up, I continued to wear it. So many good memories that it was a waste to simply sell them all away.

Finally, I got to the rings. I only had one ring, so there wasn't much to go through. It had a gold shank that had heart engravings around it, with a light blue diamond that sat right in the middle. It was another gift I had gotten for Valentine's Day. This, again, was from Buddy, and I have treasured it ever since.

When we finally finished, I laid back to rest for five minutes before we took another trip down memory lane...
