I woke several times in the night in pain and discomfort. Kaylan was there throughout and helped me move to a more comfortable position. In the end he joined me in the bed and let me use him as a pillow. He hadn't wanted to lie with me in case he fell asleep and turned over hurting me in the process but he gave in as he couldn't take watching me try not to cry and being so uncomfortable.
I couldn't take see him sitting on chair beside the bed to watch over me. When I struggled with the pain he had fetched me more pain medication and helped me to drink it, slowly this time and gave me a spoonful of honey to take away the taste. I kept it down for a few minutes before I was sick again and Kaylan said I was never to be given it again as it obviously made me sick. I would have to weather the pain for tonight and he would ride out and find an alternative tomorrow.
Having set his mind to that, he pulled the blankets back, crept in carefully so I could lie on my side leaning against him. He placed a folded blanket over my side to act as an extra barrier should he move in his sleep. My side still felt on fire but it was a pain I was getting used to and Kaylan had told me to look upon it as my body telling me not to move as it needs to heal. He showed me a scar on his ribs very close to where my injury was so I knew he had once been in the same pain.
We were not disturbed until well into the late afternoon the next morning. We were in the exact same position and had finally got some sleep. Breakfast was left for us and as my stomach growled Kaylan smiled.
Manu arrived to change my dressing and was happy with stitches but felt the wound was enflamed so he would clean it. I sat the same as I had the night before as they began to wrap my waist again to stop me from moving too much.
The door banged open and guards voices were heard as the little boy rushed in.
"Raul, you are supposed to knock," Kaylan replied.
"But I have medicine," he said holding up his hand. "My daddy made it last night but had to ride out to get the two last magic ingredients," he said his face wide eyed with excitement.
"Let me see," Manu replied.
"No," the boy replied. "I have to give it to Kaylan and only Kaylan," he replied seriously.
"Thank you," Kaylan said holding out his hand and opening the jar.
"Phwwwooooarrr that smells..."
"It is magic!" the boy said annoyed. "Look at my feet, my bruises and scratches are only hurting a tiny bit when I poke them. I shouldn't poke them but I do."
I smiled at him with adulation. He noticed and ran to hug my good side.
"Careful," Kaylan said holding his hands out protectively as I was squeezed by Raul.
"Oh the note," Raul said rummaging through his pockets. "Where is it?" he said panicking.
"Here silly," Kaylan replied as the note was attached to the lid of the jar.
"Phewwwww," I thought I'd lost it then Raul replied.
"It says to apply to the wound and drink the medicine...."
"I had to give that to the kitchen," Raul said.
"Thank you," Kaylan replied. "The medicine from the kitchen is to be consumed with meals but will make you sleepy so always be ready to sleep so you can recover."
"How does he know this?" Manu asked.
"My daddy fixed all the poorly people where we used to live before here but stopped doing it when he could not make my mummy better," Raul replied.
