Sadness seemed to be the only thing I could feel at this point in time. My tears could not stop flowing. It was like a dam had burst. I wanted to curl up in a ball with a blanket wrapped around me. So that was what I did.
When the doors to the ballroom had opened, I was met with the most extravagant sight. People decked in glamorous gowns and suits milled around the elaborately decorated hall. Some were sitting at the tables situated around the hall sipping at blue or red bubbling champagne I was later informed was called ctiyu and was regarded as treat only drunk at important occasions. Some were dancing to the sweet melodic music that drifted through the air although if the music was playing live, the musicians were very well hidden. There could easily be two hundred people in the great hall.
I aimlessly walked around the hall until I had found the snack table. Almost immediately, my stomach rumbled and my mouth started drooling at the lavish spread. I ran to the table and eyed the chocolate fondue.
These people know chocolate!
Really? Your in an unknown setting and your thinking about how this world knows chocolate?
Hey! I haven't eaten yet.
" You haven't eaten yet?" The silky ,deep voice of Themis graced my ears. Note the sarcasm.
" How did you know? I didn't say that out loud did I?" I asked, slightly annoyed he decided to show his face.
Surprisingly, he let out a hearty laugh. " No, hetyna, you were quiet like a lozhe. I merely read your mind." I stared at him stupidly. It was hard to comprehend his sentence considering I had no idea what hetyna and lozhe meant.
Hetyna means my love and lozhe means mouse. This is the language Uzhe. A common spoken word in this strange realm you should be worrying about.
Why do you keep harping on that fact. For your information I am worrying about everything.
Not enough. You seem to forget i am from this place and i remember everything that transpires among these walls and halls.
" Is Lexicon bothering you?" Themis asked.
" Who is Lexicon?" I replied.
He then explained to me that the voice in my head I had always thought was my conscience was called Lexicon and she was my jwety, the soul of a great warrior that has since gone from the land of the living but had unfinished business ,so in order for he or she to complete his supposed duty, he or she attaches to a person lives with its host until its host helps it. This had ,however, brought up a more questions, non of which was answered by Themis. Instead, he lightly grasped my forearm before pulling me through the crowd of people to a raised platform. Then he helped me up the stairs and to the middle of the platform where a glowing orb of the palest blue floated in mid air. I gazed at it mystified. Themis straightened his back and walked to the orb. Immediately, every single pair of eyes turned to the stage. I shied away from the sea of piercing eyes but Themis stood firm.
" Brothers and sisters," Themis said, his voice booming in the hall with authority, " the days of constant hiding in the shadows are over." Murmurs and whispered echoed around the ballroom. Themis' gaze roamed over suspicious and confused faces. "Tonight the prophesy begins to take its course. Tonight we shall celebrate the arrival of our saviour." With that, Themis gestured for me to join him next to the orb. Hesitantly, I inched my way over , warily scanning the many faces of the crowd, all looking up to me with newfound admiration. Themis took my hand and lifted it to be placed on the orb. I began to panic.
" Wait, what are you doing?" I whispered harshly. But he did not pay heed to my question and forced my pale hand on the orb. The second my sweaty palms came in contact with the orb, i was enveloped in a warm , tingly sensation that made my toes curl. It was not exactly enjoyable but it was interesting. A ringing in my ears made itself known. It had a chime , kind of like the tinkling a tiny bell would have but it soon grew louder and more sharp. I winced in pain when the volume of the ringing still did not stop increasing. It came to the point where it was too loud to bare and I threw my head back and squeezed my eyes shut. Then I started screaming. I tried my hardest to yank my hand from the orb which had began turning red, the colour of blood, but it would not. It was as if it was stuck there and no matter how much i tried it would not detach itself. I was going through intense pain that wrecked my entire being starting from my head before spreading to other parts of my body.
" Stop resisting. Embrace the pain , it will be over soon." whispered Themis soothingly.
I had wanted to believe him so much but the pain was too much. My cheeks were wet with tears. Suddenly, the pain dwindled to the same tingling sensation. Then everything disappeared. Everything.
I was shrouded in darkness. The waves of people , the ballroom, the pain, the sounds...Themis. They were all gone. And I was all that was left in the dark abyss. My tears kept pouring and I felt so betrayed. I did not know why. I did not know why any of the emotions that hit me at that moment was there. It was not like I trusted Themis in the first place.
" Lexi. Lexi, wake up." a soft voice echoed around me, seemingly distorted. " Lexi!"
Then I woke up. Not at Acedamia but in my bed, in my room. I stared wide eyed at the blue azure ceiling, not believing i had dreamt a dream as vivid and explicit as the one I supposedly did. A soft hand stroking my hair snapped me back to reality. I turn my head to see Jesse sitting in a chair that was beside my bed.
" What are you doing here? How did you get into my room?" I asked warily.
" I heard you screaming and sobbing, so much so that you and woke me up. And I got in through the window." Jesse said , sounding oddly defensive. Then he cocked his head to the side , reminding me of Beast" If you don't mind me asking, what were you dreaming about?"
I opened my mouth to answer him but I stopped. I do not know why I did. I just did. " I am sorry, I do mind."
Jesse's soft eyes held hints of comprehension, what did he understand? Slowly, he got up from the chair and went around my bed to my desk that held my flask that I put there every night. Then he held it out to me. I did not realise how dry my parched throat was until then. Eagerly, i chugged down the flask's content. When I looked at Jesse again, I saw the dark circles that rimmed his eyes and felt guilty.
" You should go back to sleep, I'm sorry I woke you up." I said sheepishly. Jesse chuckled but left my room through the window and hopped into his bedroom without another word.
When he was gone, I laid back in bed. I lifted a strand of hair into my line of vision. It was the dark almost-black brown it has always been, not the silvery white I had in my dream. Heaving a sigh of relief, I relaxed and closed my eyes, letting sleep wash over me once more.
