Out here on a tight rope

I always thought Mondays were bad but Wednesdays after winter break were awful.
Winter break had been busy. We were at my grandfather’s house that was a four hour drive away and it was a hassle getting there.
All my cousins were there and like always, no one of had time to breath, let alone go online to see what the lastest gossip was or watch any television.
It was a gloomy day, like it usually is on funerals in movies and that just added to my laziness.
It was the sort of day where you just want to lounge in bed but here I was stuck in school.
For what it's worth, Physics class had gotten cancelled for the week since Mr. Dash was out of town, so I got a little more time to sleep.
The only down side was that I hadn't seen Adam and I was getting slight flutters in my tummy just by thinking about him.
Or maybe it was the hunger talking, because let's be honest, I hadn't eaten anything in two hours and now that lunch time was here, I was starving.
Vena who shared biology with me had stayed behind to ask Mrs. Peterson, our biology teacher, some questions and I had left to get us a spot that wasn’t next to the trash can, in the cafeteria.
Luckily, I spotted Wayne and Eliza already settled in one of the corner tables, so I beelined over to the lunch line.
I felt someone's eyes on me and I turned to see a couple of junior girls staring at me though they quickly looked away when I caught their eye.
I frowned because this had being going on since the morning. I had noticed people staring and talking but I had no idea why.
Even in English and Biology class, Vena and Imogen had tried to keep me distracted. At first I thought maybe they really missed me but now I was getting a feeling there was something going on that I didn't know off.
Getting my lunch, I made my way to Eliza and Wayne.
I hadn't even properly sat down when Wayne asked, "Where's your new friend?"
I looked up just in time to see Eliza elbow Wayne along with a warning glare.
His question set a frown on my face because I hadn't told anyone about my new friend. I had just met him on during winter break and what confused me was how Wayne knew about him.
Still I answered, "Mr. Lucky captain Rabbit King is at home. Why?"
Wayne's eyes widened in shock and even Eliza's mouth dropped open. "You call him Mr. Lucky captain Rabbit King?" Wayne blurted.
"Well yeah." I shrugged, not sure why Wayne was so surprised. Taking a sip of my flavoured milk, I justified, "He's a rabbit with a crown. What else am I going to call him?"
Wayne started violently coughing on his bottle of water. "What?" He managed.
Eliza easied back in her seat. Crossing her hands over her chest, she raised an eyebrow. "I don't think the two of you are talking about the same thing," she pointed.
"Aren't you asking about the new plushie my grandma got me for Christmas?" I cross-examined and Wayne let out a strange sound from the bottom of his throat.
