His mop of brown hair covered his eyes and his hoodie covered his head except for the fringe which was gelled in many directions. In one hand he iheld a bag and the other his skateboard which I could tell he had been riding on by his red face. I did not more from where I sat in hope he could not see my up here.
"Ella!" He called but I did not answer. Slowly I crept back further out of view but his eyes met mine and I could no longer hide from the world.
"There you are," he said as he scaled the tree to join me at the top,
"I thought id find you here." He starting looking through the bag and handed me a kfc burger. I raised my eyebrows at this random gift.
"Go on eat it, I know its your favourite!" Ryder was right it was my favourite so I wolfed it down quickly and sipped the coke he had brought.
"How did you know I would be here?" I asked inquisitively,
"Isn't it obvious? This is where you and Charlie use to come everyday after school and sometimes me and Jase came with you, remember?" I remembered too well the fun times we had. Charlie, me, Ryder and Jase use to run around the woods each day after school making up story's of ancient times with me and my sister chasing the boys and them chasing us back. They use to tease my sister by calling her by her birth name 'Charlotte' although she never really suited a charlotte she was too boyish for such a nice name. My dad teased she could have been born a boy by all the mud and dirt she picked up during the day at home and school.
"Why are you here?" I asked,
"Because ive known you for a long time Els and I wanna be there for you." He smiled a sweet friendly smile I had never seen from him before there was no hint of jokiness or cunning in his eyes just a sense of sadness.
"School tomorrow," Ryder sighed. I nodded. I had almost forgotten about that place where I went everyday before everything happened and back when I lived a near normal life. I don't wanna go back to school. I cant cope with the whispers in the corridors about the girl who lost her twin or the girl who is breaking down inside and the unending sympathy thrown my way by the teachers and my friends. All these thoughts made me forget where I was and who I was with for a moment until I snapped back into reality and realised Ryder was looking at me with a concerning look.
"Stop thinking, its bad for you, come on!" He spoke as he stood and grabbed my hand pulling me of the branch I sat on. The rest of the afternoon we spent skateboarding and climbing trees like old times until we headed home and went our separate ways.
That night I lay awake thinking about the coming day and how school would go until finally I fell asleep and did not stir until my alarm woke me up bright and early..
