I crawled from my bed and in silence got ready for school. I ate my breakfast as quickly as I could and packed my sandwiches in a lunchbox before throwing into my backpack. Mum was still fast asleep when I left and Dad had already gone to work. I whispered goodbye as I left.
"Have a good day darling." She replied as she turned to go back to sleep.
The walk was quiet. I missed the times where Charlie would run ahead and jump into puddles or sniff the sweet roses in a neighbouring garden.
Silent, I arrived at the gate. Figures loomed in the distance some familiar some I had never seen before. From the cluster of people ran a girl. At first I did not realise who it was then it clicked!
"Emily!!" I screamed and she ran into my embrace. Our best friend Em's how could I forget she would be here. Through all the sorrow her smile beamed like the sun on a stormy day!
I walked through the entrance and down the corridor with her by my side. So many familiar faces gazed at me with half smiles and pity in their eyes to my surprise I managed to summon a smile upon my face. The bell buzzed through the corridor and I hurried to my registration. Mrs Morison showed me to my seat next to a boy I had never seen before.
I sat silent as I pulled my notepad from my bag and started doodling.
Mrs Morison called the register,"Daniella,
Karina
Ella,
Olly
Jayden.."Mrs, recalled the register quickly and then she faced the wall and scribbled onto the board.
I felt something poke my shoulder I turned to face the boy sat next to me.
"Do you have a pen I can borrow?" He said in a whisper. Carefully I scrambled through my pocket. I handed the pen over and in a soft voice he thanked me.
"Jayden!!"Mrs Morison yelled
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Sorry Mrs I was asking for a pen!" A fit of giggles spread across the classroom as Jayden adjusted his thick, chestnut side quiff.
Mrs Morison sighed as she turned to face the board and continued writing notes for her next lesson.
"Thanks Echo," Jayden saidThe bell rang.
"What.. how.." how did he know my nickname.. echo.
Okay so the story of my nickname Echo comes from when me and my sister played in the caves by the wood. I use to yell into the caves and my voice would come back louder. As a 10year old this was just fantastic so the name stuck.
